Book Description
Diabetic foot is a serious complication of diabetes worldwide. The etiology of diabetic foot is quite complex due to its multifactorial nature. Diabetic neuropathy, peripheral artery disease, foot deformity, high blood glucose and secondary infection all can contribute to diabetic foot ulceration and gangrene, sometimes resulting in minor or major amputations. Several risk factors including old age, long-term diabetes, smoking, foot deformity, and ischemia have been identified in diabetic foot. Many diagnostic methods are used for early-stage diabetic neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease, such as pulse wave, ankle-brachial artery ratio, Sudoscan, gait analysis, etc. Due to the high glucose environment, metabolic disorder, ischemia and peripheral neuropathy, diabetic foot ulcer is much more difficult to heal than common traumatic wounds. Therefore, in addition to existing treatments, new methods or techniques are still needed to improve wound healing. We also expect to find novel pathways to elucidate the complicated mechanisms involved in diabetic foot and diabetic wound healing.

This management is best undertaken by multidisciplinary teams using the latest evidence to support their practice. This book presents a comprehensive and authoritative coverage of the latest evidence-based investigations, techniques and management of the diabetic foot. Evidenced-based management of the diabetic foot International, multidisciplinary team of editors and contributors Comprehensive reference for all health professionals involved in the care of diabetic foot problems

Atlas of the Diabetic Foot
Author: Nicholas Katsilambros
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 9780471486732
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 246
Book Description
Many foot problems in diabetes can be prevented and often the patients are misdiagnosed, or inappropriately referred or treated. This title will be of immense use to the audience as work of reference. Diabetes mellitus is the lack of insulin leading to uncontrolled carbohydrate metabolism, the breakdown of starches and sugars into smaller units that can be used by the body for energy. Foot ulcers occur in about 15% of diabetic patients in their lifetime and hospital admissions due to foot ulcers are very common. Foot problems mostly occur when there is nerve damage in the feet or when there is poor blood flow. * Contains colour photos and pictures * Examples for identification of the patients at risk for foot ulceration * Prompt diagnosis and treatment.

Angiogenesis in Health, Disease and Malignancy
Author: Ali Salajegheh
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319281402
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 421
Book Description
This book is about “Angiogenesis”. A process in which new vasculature is formed from pre-existing capillaries. Angiogenesis process is associated with the proliferation and growth of both physiologically normal and neoplastic tissues, through the formation of vascular supply, essential for delivering growth requirements such as oxygen and nutrients. The book describes more than 100 genes and their key regulatory functions in the context of normal healthy condition, disease and malignancy, cancer proliferation and progression. New insights into the role of angiogenesis and the therapeutic inhibition of its regulators are investigated, due to the great potential for exploitation in the development of a novel treatment for cancer. New scientists, junior researchers and biomedical science students will find this book an invaluable introductory reference to their insight about angiogenesis and angiogenic role of more than 100 angiogenes and their role in healthy, disease and malignant conditions.

The Underlying Mechanisms and Novel Approaches for Diabetes and its Related Complications
Author: Qi Pan
Publisher: Frontiers Media SA
ISBN: 2832553753
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 392
Book Description
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, which severely affects the quality of life and survival of patients. The latest data from the International Diabetes Federation showed that there are approximately 537 million diabetic patients globally in 2021, and it is expected to reach 783 million by 2045. The treatment regime of diabetic patients mainly refers to the management of blood glucose and its complications. At present, typical hypoglycemic medications include insulin and non-insulin hypoglycemic drugs, which can be subdivided into a-glucosidase inhibitors, metformin, thiazolidinediones, sulfonylureas, glinides, DPP-4i, GLP-1RA, and SGLT-2i. Diabetic patients with poor islet function usually require insulin replacement, but the majority of patients fail to meet ideal therapeutic targets with multiple hypoglycemic drug combinations (including insulin). Furthermore, poor glycemic control is closely associated with an increased risk of diabetes complications, consequently an increased rate of mortality. More recently, promising new drugs and therapies emerged, which have many other important benefits beyond glucose-lowering. In addition, some traditional Chinese medicine have gradually revealed their therapeutic advantages. All of them provide more choices for the treatment of diabetes patients.
