The North American Native Artists Directory
Author: Adam Heath
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
The initial project focuses on two aspects: The first is creating an Internet accessible resource directory that recognizes periods of artistic transition, achievement and expression in North American art by Native artists. A second key area of the directory is to provide educational and research information for authentication of work by these artists. Various mediums of expression require inclusion in this project. Due to time constraints, the initial focus is on original expressions in the “flat” arts: painting, lithography, and drawing. Artistic expressions by Native potters, weavers, sculptors, mixed-media artists and jewelers will also be provided for and developed in the future. The project builds a platform to continue the directory indefinitely.

Art of the Cherokee
Author: Susan C. Power
Publisher: University of Georgia Press
ISBN: 9780820327662
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 328
Book Description
"In addition to tracing the development of Cherokee art, Power reveals the wide range of geographical locales from which Cherokee art has originated. These places include the Cherokee's tribal homeland in the southeast, the tribe's areas of resettlement in the West, and abodes in the United States and beyond to which individuals subsequently moved. Intimately connected to the time and place of its creation, Cherokee art changed along with Cherokee social, political, and economic circumstances. The entry of European explorers into the Southeast, the Trail of Tears, the American Civil War, and the signing of treaties with the U.S. government are among the transforming events in Cherokee art history that Power discusses."--BOOK JACKET.
