North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) 2022
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781937299293
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This is a FULL-size (8.5" x 11") current edition of The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) which represents a continuing cooperative effort among Statistics Canada, Mexico's Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI), and the Economic Classification Policy Committee (ECPC) of the United States, acting on behalf of the Office of Management and Budget, to create and maintain a common industry classification system. This jointly updated the system of classification of economic activities that makes the industrial statistics produced in the three countries comparable. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) revision for 2022 went into effect for reference year 2022 in Canada and the United States, and 2023 in Mexico. NAICS was originally developed to provide a consistent framework for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of industrial statistics used by government policy analysts, by academics and researchers, by the business community, and by the public. Revisions for 2022 were made to account for our rapidly changing economies. Classifications serve as a lens through which to view the data they classify. NAICS was developed in accordance with a single principle of aggregation, the principle that producing units that use similar production processes should be grouped together. Though NAICS differs from other industry classification systems, the three countries continue to strive to create industries that do not cross two digit Division boundaries of the United Nations' International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC). The actual classification reveals only the tip of the work carried out by dedicated staff from INEGI, Statistics Canada, and U.S. statistical agencies. It is through their efforts, painstaking analysis, and spirit of accommodation that NAICS serves as a harmonized international classification of economic activities in North America.

Number Savvy
Author: George Sciadas
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 100080979X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
This book is written for the love of numbers. It tells their story, shows how they were invented and used to quantify our world, and explains what quantitative data mean for our lives. It aspires to contribute to overall numeracy through a tour de force presentation of the production, use, and evolution of data. Understanding our physical world, our economies, and our societies through quantification has been a persistent feature of human evolution. This book starts with a narrative on why and how our ancestors were driven to the invention of number, which is then traced to the eventual arrival at our number system. This is followed by a discussion of how numbers were used for counting, how they enabled the measurement of physical quantities, and how they led to the estimation of man-made and abstract notions in the socio-economic domain. As data don’t fall like manna from the sky, a unique feature of this book is that it explains from a teacher’s perspective how they’re really conceived in our minds, how they’re actually produced from individual observations, and how this defines their meaning and interpretation. It discusses the significance of standards, the use of taxonomies, and clarifies a series of misconceptions regarding the making of data. The book then describes the switch to a new research paradigm and its implications, highlights the arrival of microdata, illustrates analytical uses of data, and closes with a look at the future of data and our own role in it.

Dirty Money
Author: Christian Leuprecht
Publisher: McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP
ISBN: 0228019893
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 219
Book Description
Financial crime in Canada remains a mystery: omnipresent, but we know little about its operation. Transactions are cloaked with apparent legality, which makes tracking criminal activity through economic or financial statistics a complex undertaking. This distinctive volume aims to stem in-, out-, and through-flows of vast sums of dirty money by enhancing Canada’s capacity to detect, disrupt, deter, investigate, and prosecute domestic financial criminals and transnational organized criminal organizations. It brings together leading scholars and practitioners from the public and private sectors to identify and explore deficiencies in federal and provincial policy, regulation, legislation, politics, institutions, and enforcement, as well as the international financial crime regime. Together contributors pinpoint weaknesses that have turned the Canadian federation into a destination of choice for global financial crime, where its perpetrators can operate with impunity. Dirty Money reveals how globalization and technology have spun an extensive web of clandestine processes that disguises how financial criminals operate, the channels they use, and how they suborn banks and institutions. In the process, the extent of financial crime in Canada and its corrosive effects on communities, democratic institutions, and prosperity becomes apparent. Contributors: Sanaa Ahmed, John Cassara, Garry Clement, Arthur J. Cockfield, Caroline Dugas, Jamie Ferrill, Cameron Field, Michelle Gallant, Peter German, Rhianna Hamilton, Todd Hataley, Caitlyn Jenkins, Christian Leuprecht, David Maimon, Katarzyna (Kasia) Mcnaughton, Denis Meunier, Pierre-Luc Pomerleau, Stephen Schneider, Jeffrey Simser.

Publisher: Statistics Canada, Standards Division
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 834
Book Description
The 2002 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), a classification system used for organizing economic data, is a revision to the classification systems currently used by Canada, Mexico and the United States. NAICS is revised as part of a five-year revision cycle in order to ensure that the classification continues to reflect the rapidly changing structure of our economies. In this revision, the Construction sector has been harmonized across the three countries, which was not the case in NAICS 1997, and the Information and Cultural Industries sector has been updated to take into account new industries arising from the emergence of the Internet. NAICS 2002 provides a common standard framework for the collection of economic and financial data for all three countries. NAICS 2002 groups economic activity into 20 sectors and 928 Canadian industries. This classification supersedes NAICS 1997.
