Book Description
A reduction in pressure in chamber at the nitriding of titanium alloys from 760 to 1 - 0.1 mm Hg leads to an increase in depth of the nitrided layer by 1.5 to 2.0 times. The thickness of the brittle nitrided zone decreases by several times. It was established that for each titanium alloy, at same temperature and nitriding duration conditions, there should exist definite pressures and nitrogen consumption at which it is possible to obtain a maximum depth of the layer. The layer obtained in rarefied nitrogen has good wear resistance and is not inferior to the layer obtained by nitriding in normal pressure. Mechanical characteristics of sample core of VT4 alloy, after nitriding in rarefied nitrogen, differs little from the nature obtained on samples nitrided at normal pressures (strength limit and impact ductility increase somewhat; relative elongation and narrowing remain practically the same). (Author).

ISBN: 0824752686
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 922
Book Description
Leading readers through an extensive compilation of surface modification reactions and processes for specific tribological results, this reference compiles detailed studies on various residual stresses, reaction processes and mechanisms, heat treatment methods, plasma-based techniques, and more, for a solid understanding of surface structural changes that occur during various engineering procedures. This unique book explores topics previously ignored in other texts on surface engineering and tribology, offers guidelines for the consideration and design of wear life and frictional performance, and sections on laser impingement and nanometer scale surface modification.
