Book Description
"This paper examines international health cooperation globally, and for China particularly, to provide information for international communities and their partner counties. It seeks to improve the harmony and effectiveness of international health cooperation from its foundations in order to develop specific policy actions. The paper reviews international cooperation on health, analysing its history and current trends, its importance and influencing factors, and the main players and challenges, particularly in China. Based on an extensive literature review and face to face interviews, this paper begins with an overall picture of global international cooperation on health, then analyses the current situation of international cooperation conducted in China. It outlines the benefits, needs and opportunities of international health cooperation in China and finally explores the major challenges this entails. The paper can be used as a resource for international cooperation on health for the growing numbers of public health professionals who are exploring issues related to international health cooperation. It also serves as a common platform for discussing the current situation and possible new directions for international health cooperation, particularly in China, and provides a body of useful knowledge and possible solutions for policymakers, researchers and international partners alike. The findings suggest as the next step conducting a further and more in-depth study of strategies necessary to address the influencing factors identified in this study, in order to enhance international health cooperation by Chinese agencies"--P. 1.

Book Description
While health literacy is a relatively new multidisciplinary field, it is vital to the successful engagement with and communication of health with patients, caregivers, and the public. This book ‘New Directions in Health Literacy Research, Theory, and Practice’ provides an introduction to health literacy research and practice and highlights similar scholarship in related disciplines. The book is organized as follows: the first chapter explains the still-evolving definition of health literacy; the next three chapters discuss developments and new directions in health literacy research, then a further two chapters are devoted to developments and new directions in health literacy theory. Two chapters explore health literacy interventions for vulnerable populations; four chapters cover health literacy leadership efforts; six chapters describe developments and new directions in disciplines that are similar to health literacy; and six chapters portray diverse health literacy practices. A preface from Richard Carmona M.D., the former U.S. Surgeon General, is included in the book. Although the book is intended primarily for health literacy researchers, practitioners and students, the diverse topics and approaches covered will be of interest to all healthcare and public health researchers, practitioners, and students, as well as scholars in related fields, such as health communication, science communication, consumer health informatics, library science, health disparities, and mass communication. As Dr. Carmona concludes in his preface: ‘This is essential reading for all health practitioners.’

Equitable partnerships among member universities representing North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe reverse standard cross-national dynamics to develop locally relevant responses to health challenges as well as their underlying disparities. Case studies focusing on multiple morbidities and effects of urbanization on health illustrate open dialogue in addressing HIV, maternal/child health, diabetes, and other major concerns. These instructive examples model collaborations between global North and South as meaningful steps toward the emerging global future of public health. Included in the coverage: Building sustainable networks: introducing the Pan Institution Network for Global Health Fostering dialogues in global health education: a graduate and undergraduate approach Provider workload and multiple morbidities in the Caribbean and South Africa Project Redemption: conducting research with informal workers in New York City Partnership and collaboration in global health: valuing reciprocity Global Health Collaboration will interest faculty working within the field of global health; scholars within public health, health policy, and cognate disciplines; as well as administrators looking to develop international university partnerships around global health and graduate students in the areas of global health, health administration, and public health and related social sciences (e.g., sociology, anthropology, demography).
