Book Description
Integrated Disaster Science and Management: Global Case Studies in Mitigation and Recovery bridges the gap between scientific research on natural disasters and the practice of disaster management. It examines natural hazards, including earthquakes, landslides and tsunamis, and uses integrated disaster management techniques, quantitative methods and big data analytics to create early warning models to mitigate impacts of these hazards and reduce the risk of disaster. It also looks at mitigation as part of the recovery process after a disaster, as in the case of the Nepal earthquake. Edited by global experts in disaster management and engineering, the book offers case studies that focus on the critical phases of disaster management. - Identifies advanced techniques and models based on natural disaster science for forecasting disasters and analyzing risk - Offers a holistic approach to the problem of disaster management, including preparation, recovery, and resilience - Includes coverage of social, economic, and environmental impacts on disasters

Book Description
The vulnerability of various regions of the world towards disasters, both natural and anthropogenic, is widely known. Disasters such as landslides, earthquakes, floods have a long-lasting effect on the environment and socio-economic systems. These disasters have been occurring at regular intervals of time and the economic and social cost of these mount every year. Disaster Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Conservation Issues deals with the fundamental principles and current practices in the field of disasters. The book covers various environmental challenges and issues related to natural disasters that affect all forms of life. It discusses how disasters can be managed and the role corporate social responsibility can play in addressing the issues. The book also provides conservation steps that can help in mitigating disasters. Experts from different fields have contributed diverse, technical, and best concepts. Through the writings, the book will make readers better prepared for the challenges of disaster management and strive towards sustainable development.

Book Description
This book is designed to provide a detailed, methodological framework for landslide hazard assessment. The focus is on various dimensions of landslide hazard assessment, including the terminologies used in landslide hazard analysis and landslide inventory systems used globally and their relevance in generating a complete and reliable landslide database for further analysis, supported by global case studies. It includes an overview of the methodological developments in landslide hazard assessment and role of geospatial technologies in landslide studies. Features: Helps readers to understand the technical details of geospatial techniques applied in hazard management. Deals with the practicalities of how to recognise and classify unstable terrain. Covers recent advances in landslide estimation, particularly the automated means of landslide susceptibility estimation. Explores methodological frameworks of landslide hazard assessment. Illustrates case studies from the United States, Europe, and Asia, including demonstrations of different methodologies of landslide susceptibility zonation. This book is aimed at researchers, graduate students, and libraries in geotechnical and environmental engineering.

Book Description
This book presents the health emergency and disaster risk management (H-EDRM) research landscape, with examples from Asia. In recent years, the intersection of health and disaster risk reduction (DRR) has emerged as an important interdisciplinary field. In several landmark UN agreements adopted in 2015–2016, including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030, the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris climate agreement, and the New Urban Agenda (Habitat III), health is acknowledged as an inevitable outcome and a natural goal of disaster risk reduction, and the cross-over of the two fields is essential for the successful implementation of the Sendai Framework. H-EDRM has emerged as an umbrella field that encompasses emergency and disaster medicine, DRR, humanitarian response, community health resilience, and health system resilience. However, this fragmented, nascent field has yet to be developed into a coherent discipline. Key challenges include redundant research, lack of a strategic research agenda, limited development of multisectoral and interdisciplinary approaches, deficiencies in the science–policy–practice nexus, absence of standardized terminology, and insufficient coordination among stakeholders. This book provides a timely and invaluable resource for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, scholars, and frontline practitioners as well as policymakers from across the component domains of H-EDRM.
