Book Description
This survey was conducted in 1978 to determine the nature of the national market that existed for campers and camping equipment. Four files contain data gathered from 2,013 respondents, measuring past, present, and projected habits and attitudes regarding family camping, vacation travel, leisure activities, and related equipment purchases. Part 1 contains information gathered in a female and a male face sheet survey, including such data as respondent's age, race, gender, region, state, county, number of subsamples, replications within a block, size of location (SMSA), metro code, serialization code, number of men (or women) in household, whom to interview, population weights, and household weights. In Parts 2-3, the variables are similar to those used in two previous studies, (NATIONAL CAMPING MARKET SURVEY, 1971 [ICPSR 7798] and NATIONAL CAMPING MARKET SURVEY, 1973 [ICPSR 7799]), e.g., use of seven specific types of camping equipment : tent, camping trailer, travel trailer, truck camper, pick-up cover, motor home, and converted van. Other similar data include type and date of outdoor recreation equipment purchases (e.g., boats and recreational land vehicles, as well as sporting, hunting, fishing, scuba, and aircraft equipment). This file also contains variables on willingness to attend camping shows, perceived cost involved in camping, and proposed camping fee structures for public lands. Part 4 contains background information about the respondents, e.g., region and state of residence, size of city, number, age, and gender of children, occupation of respondent, occupation of chief wage earner, and family income ... Book Description
This survey was conducted in 1971 to determine the nature of the national market that existed for campers and camping equipment. Two files contain data gathered from 2,003 respondents measuring past, present, and projected habits and attitudes regarding family camping, vacation travel, leisure activities, and related equipment purchases. Variables in Part 1 cover how often the respondent's family camped, the desire to take part in camping activities, use of federal, state, and private campgrounds, observations of the changing types of people who camp, and the cost of camping. Several variables measure use of seven specific types of camping equipment : tent, camping trailer, travel trailer, truck camper, pick-up cover, motor home, and converted van. Part 2 contains data on types of magazines in households, auto club memberships, and type and date of outdoor recreation equipment purchases (e.g., boats and recreational land vehicles, as well as sporting, hunting, fishing, scuba, and aircraft equipment). Other data describe how often vacation homes were used, as well as how often city, state, and national parks, monuments, recreation areas, forests, and seashores were visited. This file also contains background information about the respondents, e.g., region and state of residence, size of city, number, age, and gender of children, occupation of respondent, occupation of chief wage earner, and family income. Two related studies, NATIONAL CAMPING MARKET SURVEY, 1973 (ICPSR 7799) and NATIONAL CAMPING MARKET SURVEY, 1978 (ICPSR 7800), contain similar variables ...
