Book Description
For Today: A Prayer When Life Gets Messy will introduce you to a profound daily prayer and various strategies and outlooks for getting through tough days—and on to higher ground. This is not a book to make someone an instant saint; it is for times when the ox is in the ditch or the seed corn is gone—a prayer when you are just trying to make it through the day and get back home before dark. With God’s help, you will learn to be faithful in these hard times, and look forward to better days ahead. This unique book, combining rich personal stories and helpful spiritual reflections, can be used for personal devotionals or in small group discipleship/spiritual formation activities to unpack this powerful prayer line by line. In doing so, you will be challenged to deal with your difficulties gracefully and faithfully, just as God deals with all of us in tough and difficult times, bringing healing and hope to the mess we are in. Ultimately, the prayer brings us full circle—to be a cup of strength to other suffering souls who are in the midst of tough times, too.

Book Description
The banjo has been emblematic of the Southern Appalachian Mountains since the late twentieth century. Making Music: The Banjo in a Southern Appalachian County takes a close look at the instrument and banjo players in Haywood County, North Carolina. Author William C. Allsbrook Jr., MD, presents the oral histories of thirty-two banjo players, all but two of whom were born in Haywood County. These talented musicians recount, in their own words, their earliest memories of music, and of the banjo, as well as the appeal of the banjo. They also discuss learning to play the instrument, including what it “feels like” playing the banjo, many describing occasional “flow states.” In the book, Allsbrook explores an in-home musical folkway that developed along the colonial frontier. By the mid-1800s, frontier expansion had ceased in Haywood County due to geographic barriers, but the in-home musical tradition, including the banjo, survived in largely isolated areas. Vestiges of that tradition remain to this day, although the region has undergone significant changes over the lifetimes of the musicians interviewed. As a result, the survival of the in-home tradition is not guaranteed. Readers are invited into the private lives of the banjo players and asked to consider the future of the banjo in the face of contemporary trends. The future will be shaped by how this remarkable mountain culture continues to adapt to these challenges. Still, this thriving community of banjo players represents the vibrant legacy of the banjo in Haywood County and the persistence of tradition in the twenty-first century.

Book Description
During a trip to India, retiree Annie and her friend Leila hire Amarnath as their driver in Rajasthan. Having fallen in love with India's colours, aromas, sights, sounds, and people, the friends return for another vacation. This time, Annie's and Amarnath's lives become linked in unexpected ways. Annie travels to India many more times and acquaints herself with the unknown, exotic culture in the circle of Amarnath's family and clan. She chances upon the most unusual adventures - unusual for a western, middle-class woman. The novel is, in equal measure, a testimony to love and a fascinating evocation of Indian culture, seen through Annie's eyes. It brilliantly captures love's triumph over inevitable culture clashes, embedded in narratives about Rajasthan's architecture, legends, art, festivals, and ordinary family life.

Book Description
Imagine being sixty-five and having already lived a full life (school, family, career, travel, hobbies, and adventures). Retired and living the good life, on one seemingly ordinary day your entire world suddenly changes when you discover you have a thirty-four-year-old son whom you knew nothing about. That is what actually happened to me, and here is the true story. A young man, raised solely by a loving mother, spent thirty-four years wondering about his biological father but never expected to actually get answers to his questions. Then one day, through the marvels of DNA technology, he unexpectedly discovered the identity of his father. And he got to ask his questions, and he got them answered. In such a situation, what questions would you ask? This book details the exact questions that he did ask during our first week of discovery, along with my verbatim written responses to him. After that first week, we settled into a slower pace of discovery. Over time, I answered many more questions, using each question as an opportunity to tell him a bit more about my life—who I am and what I have experienced. I hope you find it all as amazing and fascinating as we did.

Book Description
I became aware at an early age about the war and what it is and what could happen to us if we stayed home when the South army came. Soon, we found ourselves running away from our house, with bullets fl ying above our heads, and ending up in a refugee camp. From then on, things got complicated and very hard to deal with. Because of Bill Clinton, who was the president of United States at that time, I ended up in America on March 30, 1998, and started a new beginning and a new chapter of my life in a different way. He gave us a chance to live another life and gave us a chance to become something/someone in life, and I will always be thankful to him for bailing me out of that misery.

Book Description
You may be the only Jesus some people ever meet! Suppose that the 2:00 am feeding of your infant daughter was not just meeting a physical need but also was teaching her that God’s provision could be trusted? And suppose her cries for succor were also teaching you to respond to the cries of Jesus when he presents himself as “the least of these”? Based on the Great Commandment, this book examines relationships common to us all—those of intimacy, authority, rivalry, and otherness— and shows how learning to love within those relationships affects our relationship with God. Supported by biblical examples and references to psychological studies, this book examines all our basic relationships—family relationships, relationships with authority figures, friends and enemies, companion animals, even virtual relationships—to show how learning to love within those relationships is truly divine work. In a culture where relationships are often divisive and exploitative, and where the call to love enemies often seems impractical, this book offers the reminder that every relationship provides an opportunity to love God in the other and to be “God with skin on” for that person in return.
