Book Description
**Elizabeth Bennet** My life is in tatters: a scandalous elopement, the possible loss of my beloved Longbourn, and the mortifying memory of a rejected proposal. As if that's not enough, I now have the delightful job of handling the unruly Holt children as their governess. Little did I know, this role would pull me into the world of international intrigue. Italy, Napoleon, and danger? Not exactly what I signed up for. **Things going terribly wrong: ** 1. Longbourn's impending doom. (Just perfect.) 2. Becoming a governess. (Desperation calls.) 3. Discovering the Holt's suspicious interest in Napoleon. (Because, of course.) 4. Running into the last person I'd ever want to see. (Why, universe, why?) 5. Realizing that the only man who can help me navigate this mess is the one whose heart I broke. (Oh, irony.) **Fitzwilliam Darcy** Getting over Elizabeth Bennet? Harder than I imagined. Being called upon for a crucial mission? Just my luck. Finding out Elizabeth is tangled in the very web I'm trying to unravel? Absolutely unbelievable. **Things I didn't expect this year: ** 1. Elizabeth becoming ensnared in an international incident. (Coincidence? I think not.) 2. Having to balance my mission with my feelings. (I'm not prepared.) 3. The burning need to protect Elizabeth from looming danger while she still despises me. (Old habits.) 4. Europe on the brink of war... again. (Timing is everything.) 5. Realizing the only way forward is to confront our past. (I could use a sign.) In a world teetering on war, can a gentleman set on deciphering international secrets and a governess wrapped up in her own tumultuous saga find their way back to each other?

Book Description
After Miss Elizabeth Bennet’s father is swindled in an investment opportunity, the family finds themselves in dire straits, and the eldest Bennet sisters must seek positions as governesses. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy needs a replacement for the disastrous Miss Younge, who brought his younger sister to near ruin at the hands of the late Mr. Wickham, so he hires Elizabeth. Wickham was killed in a flurry of violence. He threatened Miss Darcy with a knife; Mr. Darcy rushed to defend his sister; the end result was not entirely purposeful. Now, however, both Mr. Darcy and his sister are altered, and Elizabeth knows nothing of what befell them both. So, she arrives to an imposing and grim estate, a secretive and brooding employer, and a haughty and troubled charge. I’m afraid this is another of my out-of-character Mr. Darcy variations. I know not entirely what happened, but a bit of Mr. Rochester seemed to creep into him by degrees as I wrote, and I fear he is a bit darker than our own Fitzwilliam, though hopefully circumstances explain his behavior. I also failed at keeping it clean. Again. I seem to always fail at that, don’t I? Heavens.

Book Description
Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The story follows the main character Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of early 19th-century England. Elizabeth is the second of five daughters of a country gentleman living near the fictional town of Meryton in Hertfordshire, near London. Though the story is set at the turn of the 19th century, it retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of 'most loved books' such as The Big Read. It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature and receives considerable attention from literary scholars. Modern interest in the book has resulted in a number of dramatic adaptations and an abundance of novels and stories imitating Austen's memorable characters or themes.

Book Description
“An elegant emulation and continuation of Pride and Prejudice . . . shows how sequel-writing can, like parody, be a sharp exercise in literary appreciation.” —Times Literary Supplement This witty sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice follows the fate of Georgiana Darcy, Mr. Darcy’s younger sister, who must choose between two suitors, a well-placed navy captain and a brash young architect. Masterfully adapted to Austen’s original nineteenth-century style, Presumption brings back to life the book’s most memorable characters, the Bennets, Darcys, Collins, and de Bourghs. Julia Barrett is a pseudonym for Julia Braun Kessler and Gabrielle Donnelly. “Elizabeth’s intense embarrassment for her family, Darcy’s latent heroism and the miscellaneous barbarisms of the Bennet and Darcy clans . . . are energetically and often quite delightfully handled, evoking the spirit of Pride and Prejudice.” —The New York Times Book Review “Presumption’s style . . . evokes Jane Austen’s dry wit . . . [It] moves briskly along, highlighted by the unwitting comic genius of Georgiana’s imperious aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh.” —Los Angeles Times Book Review “A boon to anyone who has every yearned for one more in the Jane Austen canon.” —Cynthia Ozick, New York Times–bestselling author “A witty, amusing sequel to Pride and Prejudice . . . For Austen lovers not affronted by the whole concept, a pleasant diversion. Otherwise, a stylish entertainment that may lead some to the unsurpassable Jane.” —Kirkus Reviews “Barrett expertly captures Austen’s ironic voice and subject matter in a book that is sure to delight and intrigue most Austen devotees. Highly recommended.” —Library Journal
