Book Description
Jane Austen’s novels are read all over the globe, and adaptations of her works have graced both film and TV screens. Although sometimes criticised for being detached from the real world, providing nothing more than light-hearted plot-driven story lines, the reality is very different. Jane was aware of the evils of society, of the problems faced by women whether single or married. Underneath the entertaining story lines are much darker aspects of Regency and Georgian life. Staying single resulted in serious problems for young women; there were very few alternatives open to them, while marriage itself resulted in other risks. The threats of poverty or becoming a victim of crime were also an issue. Indeed, Jane’s aunt spent months in prison and faced the threat of transportation for theft. Other problems society faced included those posed by opium addiction, poor medical standards, and a lack of property leaving young men and women struggling to survive. Many sought solutions in India, leading to the creation of ‘fishing fleets’ with girls sent to marry total unknowns. Meanwhile, the issues of slavery brought more problems, and social disorder was rife. Jane Austen created classic stories that have endured the test of time, reflecting society in all its aspects, faults, values both good and bad. This is Jane Austen as you have never seen her before.

Book Description
A Quiver Full, or how Mr. Darcy will not sit on that sofa again but Mr. Bennet will, is a humorous Regency Pride and Prejudice Assemblage where nearly every one lives happily ever after. We learn about Mr. Thomas Bennet's sordid past, his scheming present, and how it changes Pride and Prejudice's future. In Mr. Bennet's defense, the 1780s were quite swingin'... Mr. Bennet rescues Longbourn from the clutches of Mr. Collins, spares Mrs. Bennet her hedgerow fantasies, gives her a few more pleasant new ones, and generally saves the day and the occasional night. A madcap, rather scheming humorous romp through an Alternative Universite several sideways steps over from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. For canon compliant folks, this is an alternative universe story. For the clean and sweet folks, this novel complies with the letter of the law, but not the spirit - as the spirit is on a madcap, scheming romp. The author hopes that Mary Wollestonecraft would approve. The author also greatly thanks A Lady, aka Jane Austen.

Book Description
Dancing out of Line transports readers back to the 1840s, when the craze for social and stage dancing forced Victorians into a complex relationship with the moving body in its most voluble, volatile form. By partnering cultural discourses with representations of the dance and the dancer in novels such as Jane Eyre, Bleak House, and Daniel Deronda, Molly Engelhardt makes explicit many of the ironies underlying Victorian practices that up to this time have gone unnoticed in critical circles. She analyzes the role of the illustrious dance master, who created and disseminated the manners and moves expected of fashionable society, despite his position as a social outsider of nebulous origins. She describes how the daughters of the social elite were expected to “come out” to society in the ballroom, the most potent space in the cultural imagination for licentious behavior and temptation. These incongruities generated new, progressive ideas about the body, subjectivity, sexuality, and health. Engelhardt challenges our assumptions about Victorian sensibilities and attitudes toward the sexual/social roles of men and women by bringing together historical voices from various fields to demonstrate the versatility of the dance, not only as a social practice but also as a forum for Victorians to engage in debate about the body and its pleasures and pathologies.

Book Description
Meryton is atwitter with the arrival of Mr. Bingley and his friends, but Mr. Darcy leaves a bad first impression on the attendees of the Assembly ball. It's almost enough to detract from the theft that occurs while everyone is inside dancing. Soon enough, other thefts occur throughout the village. Ever curious, Lizzy ventures to find the thief, acquiring an unexpected ally in the endeavor in Fitzwilliam Darcy. As they work together, she gains a more favorable impression of him, but he is the last man with whom she would ever want to solve another mystery. This is part one of the completed five-book "Crime & Courtship" series. They are intended to be read in order and follow roughly the same timeline and locations as J.A.'s masterpiece. The first mystery takes place in Meryton. The next will be at Netherfield, followed by Hunsford, then London, and finally Pemberley. The story arc will continue throughout all five parts, compromising one long read broken into five sections. A mystery is central to each installment, so you could call this a cozy mystery sweet Regency romance. While Abbey sometimes writes sensual JAFF, this series is strictly SWEET.
