There are also three strong building and loan associations, all of which are members of the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation. Educational institutions in the city include five elementary and three high schools, all operating for a full nine months term with the high schools providing twelfth grade work. Both of the senior high schools are accredited. During the 1952-1953 term there were 86 white and 22 colored teachers employed in the city system and a total of 3300 pupils enrolled. C. Legislature in 1822 immediately following the separa tion of Davidson and Rowan Counties. The city is located in the center of Davidson County, of which it is the county seat, in an area noteworthy because of its beautiful farms, the great number of textile, wood-working and hosiery plants and extensive dairying. Lexington, the county seat of Davidson County, has an elevation of feet and an area of square miles. Citizens enjoy a climate which is mild, equitable and free from severe storms. The average mean temperature is 62 degrees and the average rainfall is 51 inches The growing season is approximately 210 days.
