Book Description
The ultimate handbook on microwave circuit design with CAD. Full of tips and insights from seasoned industry veterans, Microwave Circuit Design offers practical, proven advice on improving the design quality of microwave passive and active circuits-while cutting costs and time. Covering all levels of microwave circuit design from the elementary to the very advanced, the book systematically presents computer-aided methods for linear and nonlinear designs used in the design and manufacture of microwave amplifiers, oscillators, and mixers. Using the newest CAD tools, the book shows how to design transistor and diode circuits, and also details CAD's usefulness in microwave integrated circuit (MIC) and monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) technology. Applications of nonlinear SPICE programs, now available for microwave CAD, are described. State-of-the-art coverage includes microwave transistors (HEMTs, MODFETs, MESFETs, HBTs, and more), high-power amplifier design, oscillator design including feedback topologies, phase noise and examples, and more. The techniques presented are illustrated with several MMIC designs, including a wideband amplifier, a low-noise amplifier, and an MMIC mixer. This unique, one-stop handbook also features a major case study of an actual anticollision radar transceiver, which is compared in detail against CAD predictions; examples of actual circuit designs with photographs of completed circuits; and tables of design formulae.

Book Description
Infrared and Millimeter Waves, Volume 14: Millimeter Components and Techniques, Part V is concerned with millimeter-wave guided propagation and integrated circuits. In addition to millimeter-wave planar integrated circuits and subsystems, this book covers transducer configurations and integrated-circuit techniques, antenna arrays, optoelectronic devices, and tunable gyrotrons. Millimeter-wave gallium arsenide (GaAs) IMPATT diodes are also discussed. This monograph is comprised of six chapters and begins with a description of millimeter-wave integrated-circuit transducers, focusing on various designs and trade-offs and providing hardware examples. The next chapter deals with millimeter-wave planar integrated circuits based on three transmission media: microstrip lines, suspended strip lines, and fin lines. Various transmission media and substrates are first considered, followed by design considerations and performances of several integrated-circuit components, including mixers, IMPATT oscillators, frequency multipliers, switches, filters, couplers, and ferrite devices. A few selected subsystems are also discussed. The following chapters look at planar millimeter-wave antenna arrays; optoelectronic devices for millimeter waves; and the state of the art in GaAs IMPATT diode technology for both cw and pulsed modes of operation. The final chapter is devoted to the gyrotron or electron cyclotron resonance maser. This text will be a useful resource for physicists and electronics and electrical engineers.

Book Description
The microwave and millimeter wave frequency range is nowadays widely exploited in a large variety of fields including (wireless) communications, security, radar, spectroscopy, but also astronomy and biomedical, to name a few. This Special Issue focuses on the interaction between the nanoscale dimensions and centimeter to millimeter wavelengths. This interaction has been proven to be efficient for the design and fabrication of devices showing enhanced performance. Novel contributions are welcome in the field of devices based on nanoscaled geometries and materials. Applications cover, but not are limited to, electronics, sensors, signal processing, imaging and metrology, all exploiting nanoscale/nanotechnology at microwave and millimeter waves. Contributions can take the form of short communications, regular or review papers.

Book Description
Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Physics - Technical Physics, grade: 82, Charles Darwin University (School of Engineering and Information Technology), course: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, language: English, abstract: The focus is given on millimeter/micro wave signal generation based on external modulators. The working principle and modulation characteristics of Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZM) are introduced. Literature review is presented on generating millimeter/micro wave signals with 4-, 6-, and 8-times frequency multiplication based on cascaded MZMs or dual-parallel MZMs (DPMZMs). A novel scheme to optically generate a microwave signal with 10-times frequency multiplication is proposed. The proposed scheme is based on two DPMZMs and a polarizer. It does not require electrical phase shifters with specified degrees, which are needed in the conventional 10 times frequency multiplication structure. Simulation is conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. When a 1 GHz RF drive signal turns into two DPMZMs with a 35 dB extinction ratio, the proposed 10 times frequency multiplier with an optical sideband suppression ratio (OSSR) higher than 25 dB can be obtained. A 10 GHz mm-wave with an RF spurious suppression ratio (RFSSR) over 16 dB is generated. A frequency quadrupling scheme based on a DPMZM is experimentally demonstrated. With a 3 GHz RF drive signal, an OSSR higher than 8 dB is obtained and a 12 GHz mm-wave is generated with an RFSSR over 11 dB.
