Book Description
"The Polish economist Michal Kalecki (1899-1970) was one of the architects of the Keynesian Revolution in economic theory and policy who came to England soon after the publication of Keynes's General Theory. Jan Toporowski's intellectual biography of Kalecki brings to the general reader, as well as professional economists, an explanation of the key ideas of Kalecki and how these differed from the theories of John Maynard Keynes. The book contains a wealth of new material on Kalecki and Keynes's circle in Cambridge, their shared ideas and disagreements. Kalecki's discussions of the business cycle, the New Deal, and the respective economic policies of the Popular Front in France, Nazi Germany and inter-War Poland, changed the Economics of the twentieth century. Jan Toporowski's lively and accessible discussion of Kalecki's intellectual development casts important new light on Economics and economic policy in a time of instability and financial crisis"--

Book Description
International Equilibrium and Bretton Woods brings together the papers presented at a special conference of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Bretton Woods Conference. The papers, from a number of distinguished speakers, assess the background and the results of the Bretton Woods agreements. The discussion is focused around the critical assessment of the Keynes and White Plans by Michal Kalecki, and the consequences of this for present-day international economics and international monetary and financial policy. But this volume is unique in bringing together the critical assessments that were made at the time, by Kalecki, Fritz Schumacher, Thomas Balogh, and Raul Prebisch, that are virtually unknown today, together with critical assessments of the work of the Bretton Woods Institutions since that time.

Book Description
This book helps in pushing forward a Kaleckian research agenda that is even more urgent given the 2007-2009 financial crisis and the current post-COVID recovery. Michał Kalecki was a leading heterodox economist, whose influence in the field perhaps even surpasses that of Keynes. Kalecki’s insights are even more relevant today, and scholars are encouraged to apply his conclusions to ensure the sustainability of our economic systems. This edited volume, honouring the work of Michał Kalecki, includes chapters contributed by celebrated Kaleckian economists. In honour of the 50th anniversary of his demise, the Review of Political Economy (ROPE) and Edward Lipiński Foundation hosted a conference in September 2020 to celebrate his contribution to heterodox economics and his lasting legacy. These chapters, honouring the work of Michał Kalecki, span a panoply of topics and include a personal note from one of his former students and friend, and cover topics such as Kalecki’s relationship with the Cantabrigians, labour economics, fiscal policy, income distribution, gender, finance, debt, and democracy. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the journal Review of Political Economy.

Book Description
This book, set out over three-volumes, provides a comprehensive history of economic thought in the 20th century with special attention to the cultural and historical background in the development of theories, to the leading or the peripheral research communities and their interactions, and finally to an assessment and critical appreciation of economic theories. Volume II addresses economic theory in the period between the two world wars in which the economic theory went through a process of criticism of old mainstream, deconstruction and reconstruction and theoretical ferment which involved the intellectual communities of economists emphasizing their nature of evolving interacting entities. This work provides a significant and original contribution to the history of economic thought and gives insight to the thinking of some of the major international figures in economics. It will appeal to students, scholars and the more informed reader wishing to further their understanding of the history of the discipline.

Book Description
Until the end of the early 1970s, from a history of economic thought perspective, the mainstream in economics was pluralist, but once neoclassical economics became totally dominant it claimed the mainstream as its own. Since then, alternative views and schools of economics increasingly became minorities in the discipline and were considered ‘heterodox’. This book is in honour of John Edward King who has an impressive publication record in the area of economic theory with specific interest in how economic thought in the past shapes current economic theory and enforces certain paths of economic policy and economic development. This book is divided into five themes based on King’s interests. The first theme looks at the challenge in trying to reclaim pluralism in economics. The second faces head-on the direct collision of mainstream economics with history of economic thought and heterodox economics. The third addresses classical economic ideas, their central influence in the past and how they can still primarily guide modern pluralist economics. The fourth examines Post Keynesian and Kaleckian economics with a view to providing a more coherent and extensive branch of heterodox economics. The final theme critiques the policy of neoliberalism that has entrenched itself in capitalist economies which have led to financial, industrial, labour, and behavioural/consumerist crises. This text aims to provide a clear path for pluralism to serve the economics discipline as its standard bearer, and to no longer be merely a heterodox challenge to the mainstream. This book is of interest to those who study history of economic thought, political economy and heterodox economics.
