Book Description
This comprehensive book examines the organization, financing, delivery, and outcomes of behavioral health (i.e., alcohol, drug abuse, and mental health) services from both U.S. and global perspectives. Addressing the need for more integrative and collaborative approaches in public health and behavioral health initiatives, the book covers the fundamental issues in behavioral health, including epidemiology, insurance and financing, health inequities, implementation sciences, lifespan issues, cultural responsiveness, and policy. Featuring insightful research from scholars in an interdisciplinary range of academic and professional fields, chapters fall into three distinct sections: Overview: Outlines the defining characteristics of behavioral health services and identifies significant challenges in the field At-Risk Populations: Explores critical issues for at-risk populations in need of behavioral health services, including children in school environments, youth in juvenile justice systems, and persons with developmental disabilities, among others Services Delivery: Presents a rationale for greater integration of health and behavioral health services, and contextualizes this explanation within global trends in behavioral health policy, systems, and services An in-depth textbook for graduate students studying public health, behavioral health, social work policy, and medical sociology, as well as a useful reference for behavioral health professionals and policy makers, Foundations of Behavioral Health provides a global perspective for practice and policy in behavioral health. It promotes better understanding of the importance of integrating population health and behavioral health services, with an eye towards improving and sustaining public health and behavioral health from national, regional, and global perspectives.

Book Description
This book provides state legislators with the background information they need to make important mental health policy decisions. The executive summary describes the success of deinstitutionalization in releasing large numbers of patients from state mental hospitals, but notes that the needs of persons with mental illness in the community have not been adequately met. It considers state legislative leadership to be particularly important in shaping the mental health system in each state and in meeting the needs of these deinstitutionalized persons. The book is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter provides an overview of the the situation, looking at the role legislators play in mental health, who the mentally ill are and what mental illness is, where the mentally ill are and what services they need, treatment of the mentally ill historically and today, and major issues confronting mental health policymakers. Chapter 2 examines mental health care and treatment and chapter 3 examines mental health service organization and delivery. Chapter 4 discusses the evaluation of mental health programs; chapter 5 focuses on financing mental health care with federal funds; and chapter 6 addresses the financing of mental health care with state, local, and private funds. The final chapter presents future challenges in the field of mental health that state policymakers will face. Creative state approaches are offered throughout the book as strategies to address treatment, delivery, and financing concerns. A list of mental health information sources, a glossary, a list of acronyms used in the book, and a bibliography are included. (NB)

Book Description
In Health Care Policy and Practice: A Biopsychosocial Perspective, Moniz and Gorin have updated their text to incorporate health care reform. The authors have also restructured the book to guide students through the development of the American health care system: what it is, what the policies are, and how students can influence them. The first section focuses on recent history and reforms during the Obama Administration to describe the health care system; section two examines the system’s structure and policies; and the third section explores policy analysis and advocacy, and disparities in health based on demographics and inequities in access to care. It concludes with a discussion of the impact of social factors on health and health status. The new edition incorporates the CSWE EPAS competencies; it is for social work courses in health care, health care policy, and health and mental health care policy.
