Book Description
Resource Recovery Technology for Municipal and Rural Solid Waste: Classification, Mechanical Separation, Recycling, and Transfer describes the practical considerations in recycling solid waste—from source characterization to recycling of end product—with the aim of maximizing pollution control and resource recovery. Topics covered include source classification models, solid waste treatment and resource recovery, integrated mechanical separation and parameter optimization, and the collection and transfer of classified domestic solid waste. The book details pollution control and resource recovery in every stage of municipal and rural solid waste management for solid waste engineers, environmental scientists, and academics and students in waste management. The book goes into significant detail on each stage of the process, including separation technologies according to the difference of particle size, material density difference, the difference in optical, electrical and magnetic effects of materials, preparation of plastic composites, and production of composite boards with organic waste from domestic solid waste. The book also includes a thorough case study of success in solid waste management using these techniques as an example of the application of these technologies. Compiles the latest research to deliver a comprehensive reference on pollution control and resource recovery for municipal and rural solid waste, from basic knowledge to actual process engineering Provides state-of-the-art source classification, mechanical separation, recycling, and transfer for municipal and rural solid waste with optimum strategies Includes detailed engineering designs, equipment selection, operation, and business models for source classification, mechanical separation, recycling, and transfer for domestic solid waste projects

Book Description
This new book contains the proceedings of the 4th Geoenvironmental Engineering Conference, organised by the British Geotechnical Association and Cardiff University’s School of Engineering, held in Stratford-Upon-Avon in June 2004. The theme of the conference was Integrated Management of Groundwater and Contaminated Land. This book is a compilation of peer-reviewed papers; grouped according to the sessions under which they were presented at the conference. Issues associated with Geoenvironmental Engineering continue to be a major preoccupation for Governments, public and private organisations and the general community around the world. The conference brought together people working in industry, academia and the public sector to discuss the latest ideas and developments in Geoenvironmental Engineering and related fields. The papers in these proceedings reflect the work being undertaken across the discipline. This volume is an indispensable source of information on current research and practice in the field of integrated management of groundwater and contaminated land.

Book Description
There is an extremely voluminous literature on radioactive waste and its disposal, much in the form of government-sponsored research reports. To wade through this mountain of literature is indeed a tedious task, and it is safe to speculate that very few, if any, individuals have the time to examine each report that has been issued during the preceding ten years. This book attempts to summarize much of this literature. Further, many workers in the geosciences have not received training in the nuclear sciences, and many nuclear scientists could be better versed in geology. In this book an attempt is made to cover some background material on radioactive wastes and geotoxicity that may not be an integral part of a geologist's training, and background material on geology and geochemistry for the nuclear scientist. The geochemical material is designed for both the geoscientist and the nuclear scientist. There is no specific level for this book. Certainly, it should be useful to advanced undergraduates and graduates studying geology and nuclear science. It does not pretend to cover a tremendous amount of detail in all subjects, yet the references cited provide the necessary source materials for follow-up study. It is my intention that the reader of this book will have a better, broader understanding of the geochemical aspects of radioactive waste disposal than is otherwise available in anyone source.

Book Description
Solid Waste Landfilling: Concepts, Processes, Technology provides information on technologies that promote stabilization and minimize environmental impacts in landfills. As the main challenges in waste management are the reduction and proper treatment of waste and the appropriate use of waste streams, the book satisfies the needs of a modern landfill, covering waste pre-treatment, in situ treatment, long-term behavior, closure, aftercare, environmental impact and sustainability. It is written for practitioners who need specific information on landfill construction and operation, but is also ideal for those concerned about the possible return of these sites to landscapes and their subsequent uses for future generations. Includes input by international contributors from a vast number of disciplines Provides worldwide approaches and technologies Showcases the interdisciplinary nature of the topic Focuses on sustainability, covering the lifecycle of landfills under the concept of minimizing environmental impact Presents knowledge of the legal framework and economic aspects of landfilling

Book Description
The amount and variety of waste that humanity dumps in landfill sites is nothing short of a scandal, believes Rafat Siddique, of Deemed University in Patiala, India. Instead, we ought to be building new homes out of it! Siddique shows in this important book that many non-hazardous waste materials and by-products which are landfilled, can in fact be used in making concrete and similar construction materials.

Book Description
Waste polymers have been studied for various applications such as energy generation and biochemical production; however, their application in asphalt roads still poses some questions. Over the last decade, several studies have reported the utilization of waste plastics in roads using different methodologies and raw materials, but there is still significant inconsistency around this topic. What is the right methodology to recycle waste plastics for road applications? What is the correct type of waste plastics to be used in road applications? What environmental concerns could arise from the use of waste plastics in road applications? Plastic Waste for Sustainable Asphalt Roads covers the various processes and techniques for the utilization of waste plastics in asphalt mixes. The book discusses the various material properties and methodologies, effects of various methodologies, and combination of various polymers. It also provides information on the compatibility between bitumen and plastics, final asphalt performance, and environmental challenges. Discusses the processes and techniques for utilization of waste plastics in asphalt mixes. Features a life-cycle assessment of waste plastics in road surfaces and possible Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). Includes examples of on-field usage through various case studies.
