Book Description
This monograph seeks the key to good economic policy by explaining Singapore's remarkably rapid development-the world's fastest-growing economy between 1960 and 2000-and asks whether the city-state's success can be translated to other countries. Engineering prosperity is at the heart of Singapore. The book demonstrates how exceptional cohesion amongst economic outcomes, policies, institutions, values, and leadership over a long period account for the impressive results obtained. The author is careful not to present Singapore as a model to be copied uncritically in its specifics but as a case history that illustrates general principles which other countries might wish to apply to their particular circumstances.Well-researched yet highly readable, Singapore's Success: Engineering Economic Growth will appeal to Singaporeans and a wide international audience, including policy-makers and advisors, students of development economics, and anyone interested in the quest for sustained economic growth.

Book Description
One of the main economic players responsible for Singapore’s economic success is its small and medium-sized enterprises or SMEs. Their overall success has helped propel the country and its people forward. From economic policies to politics, Singapore is a planned and regulated economy. Singapore’s economic success story is actually the result of a form of capitalism carefully calibrated and controlled by the government. An important element or aspect of good critical success factors (CSFs) emerges from the role being played by the government. The existence of good government or public policies that are pro-business is vital for the success of firms. Despite the fact that government policies and CSFs are widely studied in areas around the world including in Singapore, there is no comprehensive prediction model available to test if firms have potential to be successful or are more prone to failures. Much research investigates the non-financial factors contributing to success versus failure of small firms, but empirical tests of the predictability of these factors are less common. This book, which is primarily quantitative/ positivist in nature will attempt to fill this gap.

Book Description
'This is a thoughtful volume providing a well-rounded treatment of some of the main economic issues currently confronting Singapore. It will be of greatest interest to Singapore watchers, but given the range of issues it grapples with, a much wider audience of policymakers and those interested in development economics will also find it stimulating.' - Alfred Oehlers, Asian-Pacific Economic Literature While the Singaporean economy has experienced one of the highest rates of growth in the world over the past three decades, questions have recently been raised about the sustainability of the Singapore development model and its continued relevance in the global economy. This book is a compilation of specially written essays by a select group of leading international scholars. The authors analytically examine a number of related issues pertaining to national competitiveness, structural and macroeconomic concerns and policy options for the Singapore economy in order for it to sustain its economic viability in the global economy.

Book Description
Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Communications - Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, grade: A, Kenyatta University, course: International Marketing, language: English, abstract: Singapore is the most developed economy in the Southeast Asia region with a GDP per capita of more than $90000. The country has a well developed retail sector buoyed with strong consumer base, high disposable incomes, high literacy rates and its strategic location. This presented a review of macro environment, competitive and SWOT analyses of the Singapore’s retail industry to determine how Walmart Inc can successful enter the market. The review found that the strength of Singapore lies on its favorable business laws and regulations, business-friendly tax rates and high disposable incomes among Singaporeans. Singapore is also highly developed in terms of physical infrastructure and serves as one of the busiest air traffic and sea port hubs in the world. The high disposable income and economic freedom makes it hugely attractive for retail business like Walmart. Stable political climate and socio-cultural diversity also attracts new businesses to the country. However, the study found that corona virus pandemic and high labour and rental costs posed the biggest threats to Singapore retail industry. Nonetheless, the paper suggests adoption of franchising market entry strategy as the most appropriate. Franchising is the most appropriate approach due to low costs and reduced risks of failure. To be successful, the retailer must select a franchisee of good reputation and with a shared vision. Lastly, Walmart can select a franchisee and prepare to enter Singapore market after country opens up for business in the aftermath of the current pandemic.
