Excerpt from Manual of Procedures for Cooperative Regional Research The Hatch Act provides in section 1 for the continuation of the agricultural research at State agricultural experiment stations which has been encouraged and supported by the Hatch Act of 1887, the Adams Act of 1906, the Purnell Act of 1925, the Bank head-jones Act of 1935, and title 1, Section 9. Of that Act as added by the Act of August 14, 1946, and Acts amendatory and supplementary thereto, and to promote the efficiency of such research by a codification and simplification of such laws. Section 3(a) authorizes appropriations for the purposes of the Act of such sums as Congress may from time to time determine to be necessary. Section 3(b) provides that each State shall continue to receive the same amount from Federal appropriations as in fiscal year 1955 and subject to the same 20 percent requirement for marketing research. The fund for cooperative regional projects is also continued in the same amount and is designated as Regional research fund, State agricultural experiment stations.
