Book Description
This proceedings contains nearly 200 papers on cutting-edge research presented at the seventh international Symposium on Coastal Engineering and Science of Coastal Sediment Processes, held May 26, 2011, in Miami, Florida, USA. This technical specialty conference was devoted to promoting an interdisciplinary exchange of state-of-the-art knowledge among researchers in the fields of coastal engineering, geology, oceanography, and related disciplines, with a theme of bringing together theory and practice. Focusing on the physical aspects of sediment processes in various coastal environments, this three-volume conference proceedings provides findings from the latest research and newest engineering applications. Session topics cover a wide range including barrier-island morphodynamics and evolution, beach nourishment and shore protection, coastal dunes, cohesive sediment transport, field and laboratory measurements of sediment transport processes and numerical modeling, gravel transport, large-scale and long-term coastal changes, LiDAR and remote sensing, longshore and cross-shore sediment transport, marsh and wetlands, regional sediment management, river deltas, sea-level changes, shelf and sand bodies, shoreline changes, tidal inlets and navigation channels. A special session on recent research findings at the Northern Gulf of Mexico is also included.

Book Description
This volume offers up-to-date and comprehensive information on various aspects of the Nile River, which is the main source of water in Egypt. The respective chapters examine the Nile journey; the Aswan High Dam Reservoir; morphology and sediment quality of the Nile; threats to biodiversity; fish and fisheries; rain-fed agriculture, rainfall data, and fluctuations in rainfall; the impact of climate change; and hydropolitics and legal aspects. The book closes with a concise summary of the conclusions and recommendations provided in the preceding chapters, and discusses the requirements for the sustainable development of the Nile River and potential ways to transform conflicts into cooperation. Accordingly, it offers an invaluable source of information for researchers, graduate students and policymakers alike.

Book Description
This report provides an overview of the monitoring effort of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the mouth of the Colorado River, Texas. The report includes background information and objectives of the study, which were as follows: (a) Evaluate the design and efficiency of the weir jetty and adjacent impoundment basin so that project maintenance requirements and costs can be more accurately established. (b) Develop and improve equations for computing long shore sediment transport in the vicinity of the Colorado River, Texas. (c) Determine which sediment transport equations work best in the surf zone. (d) Collect data to aid in efforts to improve future designs of similar Corps projects. The report also includes data collection plans and procedures, data analysis, an evaluation of the project, and conclusions and recommendations. The data collection effort was divided into three main components: deployment of offshore directional wave sensors to obtain long-term, continuous wave, current, and water level information; intense, short-term field experiments that principally collected sediment transport data in the surge zone; and bathymetry surveys of the adjacent shorelines.
