L'étude expérimentale de la courbe d'état limite de l'argile verte de Romainville s'intègre dans la suite des recherches entreprises au Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées sur les lois de comportement des argiles naturelles. Cette étude a nécessité la réalisation de divers types d'essais en laboratoire suivant des procédures adaptées au caractère gonflant de l'argile verte. La courbe d'état limite de cette argile a été déterminée. Cette courbe, ayant une forme grossièrement elliptique, n'est cependant pas centrée sur la droite représentant le chemin des contraintes Ko. Le caractère anisotrope de l'argile verte a en outre été mis en évidence, et les valeurs de ses paramètres d'élasticité orthotrope ont été déterminées sur une portion limitée du domaine sur consolidé. Ces paramètres ne reflètent cependant que partiellement le comportement de l'argile verte à l'intérieur de sa courbe d'état limite, et ce comportement devrait faire ultérieurement l'objet d'une étude spécifique.
