Book Description
Discover the Dangerous Power of Words. In the not-too-distant future, humanity's ability to communicate has fractured, creating a labyrinth of professional jargons so dense that only specialists like William Kirst, Private Interpreter, can unravel them. Kirst is a linchpin in a society where understanding is a luxury, and secrets are the norm. His routine existence is shattered when he becomes entangled in a murder investigation, a crime spoken in a language of bullets and blood. As an interpreter sworn to confidentiality Kirst is bound by an oath that puts his life in jeopardy and his morals in shackles. The more he uncovers, the deeper he's edged into a conspiracy where language, as a weapon and a prison, pushes him closer to a dark truth. The Tongue Trade is a riveting exploration of language, loyalty, and the lethal power of secrets. It questions the boundaries of ethical duty and the price of silence in a fragmented world. Where words are the ultimate currency, silence can be lethal.

Book Description
Some truths don’t set you free. The pandemic may be winding down, but for Chief Inspector Robin Bright, life never really goes back to normal. One second, he’s having breakfast with his adorable husband—and their equally adorable Newfoundland, Hamish—and the next, he gets the dreaded call: a body’s been found. What initially appears to be a mugging gone wrong turns out to be murder, and Robin is on the case. Adam Matthews is happy to act as a sounding board—much as he tries not to get involved—but when Robin’s case intersects with a mystery from within their own family, he’s embroiled whether he likes it or not. Loquacious genealogists, secret pregnancies, and a potentially dubious inheritance all ensure that Adam won’t be doing his hundred-and-one headteacher tasks in peace anytime soon. Lies pile onto lies, and the more the story changes, the more the killer is revealed. Without proof, however, Robin and his team are powerless, and the murderer isn’t the only one with something to hide. But Robin won’t stop until he’s found the whole truth, and nothing but.

Book Description
A stunning and lyrical debut novel Vincent Appleton smiles at his daughters, raises a gun, and blows off his head. For the Appleton sisters, life had unravelled many times before. This time it explodes. Eight-year-old Hariet, known to all as Ari, is dispatched to Cape Breton and her Aunt Mary, who is purported to eat little girls. But Mary and her partner, Nia, offer an unexpected refuge to Ari and her steadfast companion, Jasper, an imaginary seahorse. Yet the respite does not last, and Ari is torn from her aunts and forced back to her twisted mother and fractured sisters. Her new stepfather, Len, and his family offer hope, but as Ari grows to adore them, sheÍs severed violently from them too, when her mother moves in with the brutal Dick Irwin. Through the sexual revolution and drug culture of the 1960s, Ari struggles with her fatherÍs legacy and her motherÍs addictions, testing limits with substances that numb and men who show her kindness. Ari spins through a chaotic decade of loss and love, the devilish and divine, with wit, tenacity, and the astonishing balance unique to seahorses. The Clay Girl is a beautiful tour de force about a child sculpted by kindness, cruelty, and the extraordinary power of imagination, and her families „ the one sheÍs born in to and the one she creates.

Book Description
In Key West, ex- investigative reporter Milo Bird looks forward to life in early-retirement in the tropics after quitting his job as a local radio news personality. But before he can enjoy life beyond employment his old boss begs him to cover one last story; to solve the baffling murder of a museum staffer savagely attacked in a gallery after hours at the start of a holiday weekend. Milo calls upon his amiable cadre of bar pals (possessed of disparate backgrounds and skill sets) who from time to time helped Milo in his investigative work. Together, and to Milo's increasing personal danger, they uncover a stunning secret kept hidden for nearly a century. It centers on Thomas Edison's personal connections to Key West and Florida and those links set in motion events leading to the murder committed during the theft of seemingly valueless Edison museum artifacts. Milo's band and the killers race to be the first to find a hidden prize of great value, as his antagonists plot how to use Milo to lead them to a big payday and then to eliminate him.

Book Description
"Although the task of formulating an appropriate policy response to the problem of anthropogenic climate change is one that raises a number of very difficult normative issues, environmental ethicists have not played an influential role in government deliberations. This is primarily due to their rejection of many of the assumptions that structure the debates over policy. This book offers a philosophical defense of these assumptions, in order to overcome the major conceptual barriers to the participation of philosophers in these debates. There are five important barriers: First, the policy debate presupposes a stance of liberal neutrality, as a result of which it does not privilege any particular set of environmental values over other concerns. Second, it assumes ongoing economic growth, along with a commitment to what is sometimes called a weak sustainability framework when analyzing the value of the bequest being made to future generations. Third, it treats climate change as fundamentally a collective action problem, not an issue of distributive justice. Fourth, there is the acceptance of cost-benefit analysis, or more precisely, the view that a carbon pricing regime should be guided by our best estimate of the social cost of carbon. And finally, there is the view that when this calculation is undertaken, it is permissible to discount costs and benefits, depending on how far removed they are from the present. This book attempts to make explicit and defend these presuppositions, and in so doing offer philosophical foundations for the debate over climate change policy"--
