Book Description
This book sets out a potential response to two major challenges facing OECD countries: the "youth problem", or the need to ensure that young people can play a full role in society, and the need to foster entrepreneurship for job creation, innovation and economic adaptability. The "new economy" will be built on a culture of entrepreneurship and this must include youth as well as adults. In publishing this book, the OECD therefore wishes to stimulate policy debate on the factors that encourage youth entrepreneurship, the obstacles that stand in its way and the policy measures that can support it. A picture is painted of youth entrepreneurship programmes operating at national, regional and local levels across the OECD in a wide variety of settings and with various different approaches and delivery mechanisms. The result is the first international review of "best practices" in this new and emerging area. Examples are given of programmes for education and training, help with capital, ideas and operational matters, counselling and mentoring, networking and intergenerational transfers of businesses. The range of players and activities involved are set out and suggestions are made for where gaps might be filled. The main message is that young people can indeed found new businesses and succeed, but new policies will be needed if they are to be fully encouraged.

Book Description
As entrepreneurship programs proliferate—from classes in higher education to incubators, accelerators, open innovation platforms, and innovation factories—our understanding of the advantages and challenges of different modes of learning becomes increasingly obscured. In Educating Entrepreneurs, Kariv provides an impressively broad and thorough overview of the field of entrepreneurship education, along with practical tools for students to be able to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the different options that exist, as well as for these programs’ developers and managing teams to be able to plan and manage such processes. Examining these programs, which are found both within and outside of academia, along with insights into their challenges and opportunities, should help students grasp the entrepreneurship education field, its goals, target audience, and ecosystem involvement. Kariv supplements this comprehensive evaluation with case studies and examples that tie the theory to practical applications. Students can read about contemporary ventures, such as Y Combinators, Techstars, and SOSA, giving them concrete examples to relate to. Interviews with program stakeholders around the world complete the view, with an exploration of the cultural and country-based dynamics related to programs developed in specific countries. Being both thorough and informative, this book will serve students and faculty of entrepreneurship courses, as well as practitioners looking to understand their entrepreneurship education options.

Book Description
This book analyses the opportunities and barriers for youth entrepreneurship amid systemic change in Central and Eastern Europe. The authors cover different aspects of youth entrepreneurship and its contribution to the debate on youth unemployment in transition economies. The book discusses the wide-spread over-optimism regarding youth entrepreneurship, self-employment, and its impact on economic innovation and job creation, resulting from a disregard of critical contextual features and the characteristics of young entrepreneurs themselves. The authors give due acknowledgment of the importance of both factors and so fully understand the impediments to youth entrepreneurship, especially in a transition context. Furthermore, they seek to assess the opportunities and constraints of promotion policies in transition economies. Most importantly, the book provides the first empirical contribution to youth entrepreneurship in Central and Eastern Europe by offering a representative number of case studies. The book will be invaluable reading for scholars and students of transition and developing countries, particularly those with an interest in entrepreneurship.

Book Description
There is a widespread growth of policies to encourage the development of new enterprises and entrepreneurship, however there have been relatively few studies on the relationship between these policies and local economic development. This book fills that gap. It covers three thematic areas: strategy, finance and programmed design, makes recommendations to help the design of entrepreneurship programmes and describes the research that should be undertaken to improve the understanding of key policy issues.
