Bénéficiant d’une croissance soutenue et de nouvelles réglementations, l’Inde constitue un marché attractif pour les laboratoires pharmaceutiques, combinant opportunités de croissance, faibles coûts de production, et un vivier de scientifiques compétents. Toutefois, dans un marché toujours compétitif et fragmenté, tant les acteurs établis que les nouveaux entrants sont contraints de se différencier en développant un avantage concurrentiel significatif. Dans ce cadre, nous étudierons l’influence des stratégies de réseau sur la performance des laboratoires pharmaceutiques en Inde. L’examen du marché indien et l’analyse des corrélations entre les stratégies de réseau et divers indicateurs de performance nous ont permis de tirer des conclusions allant parfois à l’encontre des implication de la théorie des réseaux. En effet, notre étude confirme que le nombre total de partenariats et d’acquisitions est un déterminant majeur de l’évolution de la marge opérationnelle. Par ailleurs, la valeur totale des acquisitions impacte considérablement la valeur absolue de la marge opérationnelle ainsi que celle de la part de marché. En revanche, la stratégie de réseau suivie par les entreprises ne semble pas influencer leur capacité à faire croître leur chiffre d’affaires et leur résultat avant intérêts et impôts. Elle apparaît également sans influence sur l’évolution de la part de marché. Nous examinons en détail les raisons pouvant expliquer ces résultats contre-intuitifs. Notre analyse va ainsi à l’encontre de certaines théories existantes, notamment de la théorie des réseaux appliquée à l’industrie pharmaceutique indienne. Par ailleurs, elle contribue à une meilleure compréhension des facteurs de performance des laboratoires pharmaceutiques en Inde et de la théorie des réseaux, qui n’a pas encore été étudiée de façon approfondie dans un contexte spécifiquement indien ni appliquée au secteur pharmaceutique
