Book Description
The improvement of public lighting is an effective and economical way to enhance the attractiveness of urban downtown areas. Many cities in Germany and Europe have already recognized this fact and used master plans to create entirely new systems of urban lighting. They have been motivated to do so by the desire to compete with other cities and to upgrade and enhance their city centers. Although this trend is widespread and enduring, a typology of urban lighting has not been available until now. As a concrete and practical guide, this book establishes first standards for the field. Drawing on the author's experience, it addresses the technical and planning aspects of the task and provides important information on feasibility and possible financing models. Organized systematically and with a wealth of color illustrations, detail drawings, and implementation plans, it is an indispensable guide to successfully interacting with other planners, government departments, and investors. Ulrike Brandi (b. 1957), Dipl. Des. IALD DWB, is a lighting designer and the managing director of ULRIKE BRANDI LICHT GmbH in Hamburg. She designs lighting solutions for commercial buildings, natural settings, and cities. The firm has realized more than 300 projects throughout the world. Christoph Geissmar-Brandi, (b. 1958), Dr. phil., is an art historian, exhibition curator, and the author of many books in the field.

Book Description
Vistas in Astronomy, Volume 2 covers the spectacular and interesting developments in the field of astronomy. This volume is organized into six parts encompassing 59 chapters that specifically explore solar-terrestrial relations, geophysics, planetary system, stellar astronomy, photometry, and spectroscopy. The first part deals with the events in the ionosphere, the absorption of radio waves in the ionosphere, solar flares, and cosmic rays. The second part reviews the geophysical aspects of astronomy, particularly Earth's atmosphere, the ozone layer, and the morphology of geomagnetic storms and bays. The third part examines the status of planetary system research concerning the minor planets, comets, and meteors, while the fourth part highlights research works on stars. The last two parts are devoted to the application of photometry and spectroscopy in delineating certain aspects of astronomy, including galactic cluster, eclipse, and stellar temperatures and luminosity. This book will be of value to astronomers, astrophysicists, geophysicists, and workers and researchers in the allied fields.

Innovative technologies within the field of architecture are being developed to enhance inclusivity in architectural approaches and development processes. It is essential to research inclusivity in architecture and the built environment toward holistic sustainable development. The Handbook of Research on Inclusive and Innovative Architecture and the Built Environment discusses inclusive and innovative approaches to providing socio-cultural value within architecture and the built environment. It focuses on issues of diversity, sustainability, resilient designs, and more. Further, the book expands the knowledge and awareness of architecture and the built environment towards inclusivity in design development and emerging advanced technology. Covering topics such as architectural challenges, global health, and urban morphology, this major reference work is an excellent resource for architects, government officials, urban planners, practitioners, students and educators of higher education, researchers, and academicians.

Book Description
Constituting the first holistic overview including practical remedies, this handbook provides the background needed by anyone grappling with the complex issue of outdoor lighting and its effects. It describes not only the problems that astronomers and other night sky observers face in reducing the problems of information loss due to light pollution, as well as the problems lighting technologists face in optimising outdoor lighting installations that cause little or no light pollution. The first part is directed to decision makers and managers of outdoor space and covers the areas of general interest, culminating in recommendations to reduce the impact of light pollution. The second part is directed primarily to scientists and engineers, as a support to the design and maintenance of outdoor lighting installations, with special reference to astronomical observations. Elaborating issues from the first part, these contributions include examples that refer to specific outdoor lighting projects and to more general policy and educational measures. Written for designers of lighting equipment and managers of astronomical observatories, but also aimed at the authorities and decision makers responsible for the organization and maintenance of the public space, it will serve a good purpose in graduate or postgraduate curricula for scientists, engineers, economists and law students. This handbook fills the gap that exists between astronomical textbooks, engineering texts and popular brochures about light pollution.
