Current Challenges in Architecture and Urbanism in Albania
Author: Anna Yunitsyna
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030819191
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 193
Book Description
This book aims to provide a cross-sectorial assessment in a multidisciplinary and trans-cultural context onto the innovations in urban and architectural approaches in designing next human environments within the Albanian context. The continuous concentration of the world population in the urban areas and their consequent densification require even more quantity of quality spaces and places, integrated resources and energies, alternative modalities of mobility and transports, demand of social inclusion and need for a circular economy. These have become the major challenges for this 21st Century and some of the greatest problems facing humanity in most of current vision for the future. The main objective is to feed a debate about the emerging trans-cultural (and trans-national) approaches in the whole designing field, from Albanian context and its current good practices, attempts and faults, both formal and informal. Thus, the Albanian experience may represent an opportunity through which we all may reflect about how designing is evolving in the Mediterranean arena of “praxis and experiments” aimed to a better quality of life at the human scale and in expanding the concepts of “place and space” such as it has improved by the effects in designing innovations. This book represents a useful read of theories, experiences and case studies, which can help in enlarging reflection on how the designing practice is evolving in the arena of forthcoming development strategies and tactics, all addressed to improve the quality of life, places and spaces. Additionally, it provides a range of architecture and urban design rationales and strategies for reinforcing identities and creating memorable places within the quality of contemporary architecture and urbanism. It addresses the unique needs of architects and planners to deal with topics that cut across social, economic and environmental issues and shows readers how to explore methods, theoretical frameworks and techniques to address the complex needs of architecture, urban and cultural development.

Computational Stochastic Mechanics
Author: P.D. Spanos
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401136920
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 886
Book Description
Over a period of several years the field of probabilistic mechanics and com putational mechanics have progressed vigorously, but independently. With the advent of powerful computational hardware and the development of novel mechanical techniques, the field of stochastic mechanics has progressed in such a manner that the inherent uncertainty of quite complicated systems can be addressed. The first International Conference on Computational Stochastic Mechanics was convened in Corfu in September 1991 in an ef fort to provide a forum for the exchanging of ideas on the current status of computational methods as applied to stochastic mechanics and for identi fying needs for further research. The Conference covered both theoretical techniques and practical applications. The Conference also celebrated the 60th anniversary of the birthday of Dr. Masanobu Shinozuka, the Sollenberger Professor of Civil Engineering at Princeton University, whose work has contributed in such a great measure to the development of Computational Stochastic Mechanics. A brief sum mary of his career and achievements are given in the Dedication. This book comprises some of the papers presented at the meeting and cov ers sections on Theoretical Reliability Analysis; Damage Analysis; Applied Reliability Analysis; Theoretical Random Vibrations; Stochastic Finite Ele ment Concept; Fatigue and Fracture; Monte Carlo Simulations; Earthquake Engineering Applications; Materials; Applied Random Vibrations; Applied Stochastic Finite Element Analysis, and Flow Related Applications and Chaotic Dynamics. The Editors hope that the book will be a valuable contribution to the grow ing literature covering the field of Computational Stochastic Mechanics.

Projects Along the Coast Line
Author: Lorenzo Pignatti
Publisher: List
ISBN: 9788898774241
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
While it may seem that everything has already been written, this work wishes to bring to the already consistent body of existing literature a reading and interpretation of the identity of the landscape, of the settlements and architecture of the Adriatic-Ionian Euro Region, a geographic area that is acquiring an important role within new European equilibriums. In fact, it is evident that within the contemporary geopolitical scenario a number of regions are acquiring a greater importance and increasingly more weight in the cultural, political and economic and social arena with respect to others. This is clearly the case of the Adriatic-Ionian Region, destined to become a key region for a new series of relations between East and West, between North and South, between Europe and the Balkans. Europe now looks towards the Balkans, and the Balkans towards Europe, each with multiple interests. This policy is in reality diagonal, like the axis of the Adriatic itself, which extends from the heart of Central Europe toward latitudes as far East as cities such as Budapest. The geographic transversality characteristic of this region must also become a social and political transversality capable of integrating cultures, practices and knowledge developed over the centuries on both coasts of the Adriatic-Ionian basin. This work, through a numerous series of "projects along the coast line", intends to propose its contribution towards a new "geo-urbanism" related to the identity aspect of the processes of transformation that today cities facing the Adriatic and Ionian Seas address.

Publisher:
ISBN: 9783955532383
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 152
Book Description
What makes building materials sustainable? How to reduce the amount of embodied energy in building constructions? And how does a Life Cycle Analysis work? These are questions which are becoming increasingly more common in the context of sustainable construction. The DETAIL Green Book "Sustainable Construction Techniques" offers a thorough guide to ecological building design and sustainable construction methods, which will be particularly valuable for architects. The authors provide an overview of the most relevant databases and certification standards for building products and illustrate how a Life Cycle Analysis is conducted. They also identify key ways of optimising the planning process in line with ecological criteria, while offering advice for the selection of building materials and elements. Detailed documentation from five buildings constructed in Europe and North America serve to illustrate the associated assessment processes in this book.
