L'exploitation agricole est devenue une entreprise à part entière. Cette transformation n'a pu se faire qu'au prix de lourds investissements rendus possibles par un recours massif au crédit. Souvent, l'agriculteur est un fermier. Il ne peut donc emprunter sur la valeur des terres. Le crédit réel mobilier agricole a été donc aménagé avec la création du warrant agricole pour lui permettre de disposer de son capital d'exploitation. Il n'offre cependant pas l'efficacité du crédit hypothécaire. L'accès aux crédits à long terme est plus difficile pour les agriculteurs en faire-valoir indirect. Le fermier peut cependant nantir l'ensemble de ses actifs réunis dans un fonds agricole. L'entreprise pourrait être ainsi un facteur de renouveau du crédit réel mobilier agricole alors qu'elle n'a eu jusqu'à aujourd'hui pour le créancier, par les protections accordées à l'entrepreneur individuel et à l'entreprise en difficulté, que des effets essentiellement négatifs sur le crédit de l'agriculteur.

Governments, nongovernmental organizations, donors, and the private sector have increasingly embraced value-chain development (VCD) for stimulating economic growth and combating rural poverty. Innovation for Inclusive Value-Chain Development: Successes and Challenges helps to fill the current gap in systematic knowledge about how well VCD has performed, related trade-offs or undesired effects, and which combinations of VCD elements are most likely to reduce poverty and deliver on overall development goals. This book uses case studies to examine a range of VCD experiences. Approaching the subject from various angles, it looks at new linkages to markets and the role of farmer organizations and contract farming in raising productivity and access to markets, the minimum assets requirement to participate in VCD, the role of multi-stakeholder platforms in VCD, and how to measure and identify successful VCD interventions.
