Book Description
From the New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah comes a powerful novel of love, loss, and the magic of friendship. . . . now a #1 Netflix series! In the turbulent summer of 1974, Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the eighth-grade social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the "coolest girl in the world" moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. Tully Hart seems to have it all---beauty, brains, ambition. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn. Tully, steeped in glamour and mystery, but with a secret that is destroying her. They make a pact to be best friends forever; by summer's end they've become TullyandKate. Inseparable. So begins Kristin Hannah's magnificent new novel. Spanning more than three decades and playing out across the ever-changing face of the Pacific Northwest, Firefly Lane is the poignant, powerful story of two women and the friendship that becomes the bulkhead of their lives. From the beginning, Tully is desperate to prove her worth to the world. Abandoned by her mother at an early age, she longs to be loved unconditionally. In the glittering, big-hair era of the eighties, she looks to men to fill the void in her soul. But in the buttoned-down nineties, it is television news that captivates her. She will follow her own blind ambition to New York and around the globe, finding fame and success . . . and loneliness. Kate knows early on that her life will be nothing special. Throughout college, she pretends to be driven by a need for success, but all she really wants is to fall in love and have children and live an ordinary life. In her own quiet way, Kate is as driven as Tully. What she doesn't know is how being a wife and mother will change her . . . how she'll lose sight of who she once was, and what she once wanted. And how much she'll envy her famous best friend. . . . For thirty years, Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship---jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they've survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart . . . and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test. Firefly Lane is for anyone who ever drank Boone's Farm apple wine while listening to Abba or Fleetwood Mac. More than a coming-of-age novel, it's the story of a generation of women who were both blessed and cursed by choices. It's about promises and secrets and betrayals. And ultimately, about the one person who really, truly knows you---and knows what has the power to hurt you . . . and heal you. Firefly Lane is a story you'll never forget . . . one you'll want to pass on to your best friend.

Book Description
Excerpt from Memorial Letters to My Grandchildren My Dear Grandchildren: I am made very happy in the thought that you all were old enough to know and remember your grandpapa. It is a pleasure to think that he was near and with you during the last summer of his life; that you saw him every day and that you learned, at least the older ones among you, to know his pleasant smile and to feel that he loved you. I think, too, that you will remember the last time you looked upon his kindly face when he lay peacefully at rest, and you placed your hand upon his cold forehead, and he did not open his eyes to greet you or move his lips for the usual kiss. And perhaps you will never forget the sweet and tender services in my sick room, where you all came to comfort me before the dear form was carried from my sight to the church, where you listened to the solemn services, and where you saw the many friends who had gathered to pay their last loving tribute of respect to him. I hope it will not prove to be so sad a lesson as it seemed at the time, but that its memory will be such a help and blessing to you in your future life that the sadness will no longer overshadow it. Though you may remember all these things about your grandpapa, you will still know but little about his life that I think you would like to know, unless some one, who was familiar with him, is able and willing to tell you; so I have determined to write you a series of letters, beginning with his infancy, which shall give you a brief sketch of his early home, his life, and his character: and this shall be my labor of love for him and for you. You have all been to the pleasant old homestead where his baby eyes first opened to the light of this beautiful world; you know the charming views from every point of the hill on which the house stands, just in the edge of Franklin, Massachusetts, and very near the Charles River, which runs at the foot of the hill and divides Franklin from Medway. Book Description
Excerpt from After Fifty Years: Or Letters of a Grandfather on Occasion of the Jubilee of the Free Church of Scotland in 1893 The thought of writing an account of the origin and subsequent progress of the Free Church in letters to his grandchildren, was simmering in the mind of the author, when he received a request from the Publications Committee of the Free Church to write a narrative that, while suitable to the rising generation, might be interesting and instructive to all. This request led him in some degree to modify, without altogether abandoning, his original plan. The familiar style of letters has been retained, and the grandfather has not been altogether superseded. It will be understood that, while this little book goes forth with the general sanction of the Publications Committee, the author alone is responsible for all that it contains. Book Description
ABOUT THE BOOK YOUR GRANDPA is a heartwarming story about an imaginary relationship between a grandfather and his four grandchildren. The story is written in the form of a letter from a grandmother to her grandchildren, recounting her late husband's great personality and accomplishments. The grandchildren never knew their grandfather because he had passed away before they were born. Yet through their grandmother's words, they can get to know their grandfather and can imagine the wonderful times they would have spent with him. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Born in Israel (then called "Palestine"), Judith Weinshall Liberman came to the United States in 1947 to pursue higher education. She earned four American university degrees including two in law, a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and an LL.M. from the University of Michigan Law School. After settling in the Boston area in 1956, she studied art and creative writing. Beginning in the early 1960s, and for four decades thereafter, Ms. Liberman created numerous series of artworks. Her art has been widely exhibited, and is represented in the collection of museums and other public institutions. During her long career in visual art, Ms. Liberman wrote several books, among them some picture books. Her book THE BIRD'S LAST SONG (Addison-Wesley, 1976), which she also illustrated, won a citation as one of the "fabulous books of the year." Since 2012, she has published several additional picture books, including ICE CREAM SNOW, THE LITTLE FAIRY, COLOR IN OUR WORLD, THE VERY OLD PAINTER AND HER HUSBAND, HAIFA, ANGEL'S PUPPIES, THE GIANT HOUSE, THE BEE AND THE BUTTERFLY, THE MOUNTAIN, THE TUNNEL, THE OLD DOLL, FIFTEEN FABLES, TWELVE MORE FABLES, A PARAKEET FOR ERIC, TALES OF HUMAN FOIBLES, IN THE MILITARY CEMETERY, MORE TALES OF HUMAN FOIBLES, MICHAEL AND THE FLAG, IF I HAD THE POWER, IF I WERE RICH, THE WHIRLPOOL, THE BRIDGE, GRANDMA'S GLASSES, ANNE FRANK IN MY ART, RUTHIE AND HER ANCESTORS, AN INTRODUCTION TO MY JUDAICA ART, HEAVENLY GARDENS, THE RAINBOW, HOLOCAUST PAINTINGS, HOMO SAPIENS, and SELF PORTRAITS OF A HOLOCAUST ARTIST. Judith Weinshall Liberman's archives can be found in the Arts Department of the Boston Public Library and at the Smithsonian Archives of American Art. ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR YOUR GRANDPA is the eleventh book on which Judith Weinshall Liberman, the author, has collaborated with Cindy Nguyen, a Gau Family Studio illustrator. The two had previously collaborated on THE LITTLE SONGBIRD, THE BIRD WHO WENT TO HEAVEN, THE GIRL AND THE PIGEONS, WHAT WILL I BE?, LUCY AND THE SNOWMAN, IF I HAD A LITTLE SISTER, IF I WERE A MOM, THE SECRET, SHOP AND SHOP, and on RONNIE'S ALARM CLOCK. Since Ms. Liberman did not feel that, in view of her deteriorated eyesight, she could do justice to illustrating YOUR GRANDPA herself, she turned to Gau Family Studio to create the illustrations under the author's guidance. In the present book, Ms. Nguyen beautifully captures the spirit of the story and of its characters.
