Introduction : le dépistage des troubles du développement psychomoteur avant 3 ans est un enjeu capital pour une prise en charge précoce permettant aux enfants atteins de développer leur plein potentiel. Les parents sont souvent les premiers témoins d'une anomalie mais ne l'évoquent pas toujours avec le médecin. Ont-ils les informations nécessaires pour savoir quand en parler ? L'objectif de cette étude est d'évaluer l'état des connaissances des parents sur les signes d'alertes du développement psychomoteur des enfants avant 3 ans, avec pour objectif secondaire de déterminer leurs attentes. Méthode : il s'agit d'une étude quantitative descriptive transversale portant sur une population de parents d'enfants âgés de 0 à 6 ans. 300 questionnaires anonymes ont été déposés dans des cabinets de médecine générale, de pédiatrie libérale et dans des centres de Protection Maternelle et Infantile dans le département du Var de janvier à juin 2021. Résultats : sur les cinq questions évaluant les connaissances des parents, seule la question sur la marche a obtenu un pourcentage de réponses justes supérieur à 50%. Les parents avaient en moyenne deux réponses justes sur cinq. Après analyse en fonction des critères socio-démographique, hormis un seul résultat, aucun des résultats présentés n'était significatif (p> 0.05). Enfin, concernant les attentes, 87,7 % des parents souhaitent être d'avantage informés et pour obtenir cette information, 41,2 % souhaitent une fiche explicative et 32,5% une consultation par le médecin généraliste ou le pédiatre. Conclusion : les parents possèdent très peu de connaissances sur les étapes clés du développement psychomoteur, et ce, quel que soit leur âge ou celui de leur(s) enfant(s), leur activité professionnelle ou encore le fait qu'ils aient un ou plusieurs enfants. Il est donc essentiel d'apporter ces connaissances à tous les parents sans exceptions. Ces connaissances pourraient permettre aux parents d'aborder leurs doutes avec le médecin sans attendre afin qu'il détermine s'il y a un réel retard et ainsi débuter une prise en charge immédiate.
