L'integrazione del sistema di "gestione per la Qualità", con la valutazione e il miglioramento delle specifiche competenze tecnico-professionali e col monitoraggio della Qualità dei percorsi diagnostici e terapeutici non è stato e non è impegno di poco conto: non a caso essi sono annoverati tra i punti di forza e gli obiettivi strategici anche del Piano Sanitario Nazionale 2003-2005 ("Garantire e monitorare la qualità delle cure e delle tecnologie sanitarie"). La disponibilità di materiali di significato formativo in tal senso è ancora assai scarsa nel nostro mondo specialistico. E cio', nonostante sia sempre più pressante la richiesta di strumenti formativi che consentano di trasferire al medico specialista la capacità di utilizzare al meglio i metodi e gli strumenti per l'identificazione, la gestione e la misura dei processi diagnostici, terapeutici e gestionali in Pneumologia, avendo come obiettivo il loro miglioramento continuo nel contesto dell'Azienda sanitaria. L'obiettivo didattico-formativo del presente volume è proprio orientato in tal senso e si propone di fungere da strumento utile per intraprendere in maniera semplice l'approccio e la gestione per processi in Pneumologia, rendendo cosi' più facile ed efficace la comunicazione con le Direzioni strategiche aziendali. Gli argomenti trattati sono di estrema attualità in tema di applicazione dei metodi e degli strumenti illustrati nei programmi di miglioramento per la Qualità. Cio' nel tentativo di incrementare le competenze specifiche dello specialista pneumologo, cosi' da renderlo interlocutore efficace e indipendente nei confronti delle Direzioni strategiche di riferimento. Con grande sensibilità la SIMeR (Società Italiana di Medicina Respiratoria) ha voluto patrocinare la presente edizione, a oggi l'unica in ambito pneumologico, i cui contenuti hanno preso origine dalle proposte e dal lavoro dei responsabili di uno dei suoi Gruppi di Studio di più recente istituzione, quello del "Miglioramento Continuo della Qualità in Pneumologia".
