A land agreement involving Henry Knox, Samuel Winslow, Isaac Winslow (the heirs and representatives of the late Brigadier General Samuel Waldo), and the inhabitants of Penobscot Bay and Canaan, Maine. The heirs agree to supply the inhabitants who agree to their payment terms with warrantee deeds. The land is being sold to the inhabitants for four shillings, or 2/3 of a dollar, per acre without interest as long as payments are timely. A list of the inhabitants and the acreage owned is also included.

Form 1 is a generic form with blanks filled in by Henry Knox, Samuel Winslow, and Isaac Winslow giving their permission for the occupation on a lot of land; name of occupier and amount of land are left blank. Form 2 is also a generic form with blanks that a subscriber (left blank) would sign agreeing to the terms of payment. The generic forms possibly could be intended for the use of George Ulmer, Henry Knox and Samuel and Isaac Winslow's land agent, when making agreements with the settlers. Document possibly pertains to GLC02437.09195. Date was added at a later date in pencil.

The Papers of George Washington, a grant-funded project, was established in 1968 at the University of Virginia, under the joint auspices of the University and the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association of the Union, to publish a comprehensive edition of Washington's correspondence. Letters written to Washington as well as letters and documents written by him are being published in the complete edition that will consist of approximately ninety volumes. The work is now (2011) more than two-thirds complete. The edition is supported financially by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, the University of Virginia, and gifts from private foundations and individuals. Today there are copies of over 135,000 Washington documents in the project's document room. This is one of the richest collections of American historical manuscripts extant. There is almost no facet of research on life and enterprise in the late colonial and early national periods that will not be enhanced by material from these documents.
