The world ecological system is marked by difference throughout. There is social difference with different identities, shifting and transmuting, being forged, and extra-human differences. All these have implications for intra human and human/non-human earth relations. This aspect is not always recognised and valorised. Education, though not an independent variable, still can be mobilised, together with other sources of potential transformation, to redress this situation marked by aggressions, micro and macro, inertia and indifference. It represents a number of immediate challenges for Adult Education. This compendium is intended as a useful resource in this regard. It maps out a kaleidoscope of myriad differences and suggests options for overcoming the various obstacles that stand opposed to those who seek fulfilment in the way they are discursively located. Esta obra recoge el trabajo de investigación realizado en los IES de León con el fin de tener un primer acercamiento a la situación real de los inmigrantes no hispanohablantes, y obtener un perfil aproximado del tipo de alumnado inmigrante que asiste a dichos centros. Dentro de un marco teórico previo, se ha realizado un trabajo de campo que ha consistido esencialmente en la visita a la mayor parte de los IES públicos de la ciudad de León, para conocer de primera mano la situación real. Para ello se han recabado datos de los alumnos inmigrantes, mediante la realización de una encuesta preparada ad hoc, y de los propios docentes encargados de la enseñanza de la lengua con los que se mantuvo entrevistas y encuentros directos. Las conclusiones obtenidas han permitido obtener una idea general de cuál es la situación de la enseñanza de español a inmigrantes en la ciudad de León, donde el número de alumnos extranjeros todavía es escaso. También se puede afirmar que la pluralidad lingüística y cultural hace necesario la educación de todo el alumnado en la interculturalidad, la tolerancia y el respeto.
