El propósito de este libro es pensar las implicancias filosóficas de la desmaterialización del soporte fotográfico y las resonancias metafísicas del paso de la imagen análoga a la digital o numérico-binaria. Para ello, la fotografía será vista como imagen, en general, en el pensamiento filosófico, lo que permite comprenderla como la culminación visual de la tradición imaginaria de Occidente. Luego, la fotografía se considerará como objeto cultural configurador de mundo. Finalmente, la modificación de soporte, desde una materialidad hacia una codificación, será interpretada como una declinación de las maneras de descifrar al sujeto contemporáneo y sus sistemas de significación. Con dicho recorrido, este libro se transforma en fundamental para todo aquel al que le interese conocer la importancia de la representación, y en particular de la fotografía, en el pensamiento filosófico desde sus inicios hasta hoy.

"The first exhibition to offer a critical assessment of the artistic experimentation that took place in Mexico during the last three decades of the twentieth century. The rich sepia tone of a photograph by Luis González Palma (born 1957) is unmistakable: he colors his prints by hand but always leaves the whites of his portrait subject's eyes untinted to elicit a disconcerting but penetrating gaze. Working from Guatemala City since the 1980s, and exhibiting internationally since about 1989, Palma has made his long-term project the documentation of his country's indigenous Mayan population, which governmental policy has ferociously repressed during the last half-century. Often collaged with symbols and objects, Palma's pictures act as records of a population for whom violence and mysticism coexist. Colloquia, a more recent project, gathers portraits of Guatemalan artists as part of a larger effort to establish a museum for contemporary Guatemalan art.
