Book Description
Academic Paper from the year 2022 in the subject Politics - Region: Southeastern Europe, grade: v, , course: Policy, language: English, abstract: The role of the international community in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, before the meeting in the USA between Kosovo and Serbia, was evaluated as a small hope but perhaps for the slow achievement of peace. The meeting in the USA had more of an economic character than a political one. Israel's recognition of Kosovo was the only point that had great importance for Kosovo, but of course this conference had greater economic importance. The attempt was to relax political relations through economic cooperation, this conference seemed to have characters or meaning of relaxation and economic development between Kosovo and Serbia. This conference is thought that it would open the possibility later, i.e. the other stages, to conclude the Kosovo-Serbian dialogue. According to Kosovar analysts, American engagement within the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is vital for the country, due to the fact that, according to them, the Brussels dialogue has not produced many results for 10 years now. Therefore, in this context, the only hope remains the USA. The only hope remains the USA to end the frozen conflict and the obstacle of Kosovo to be part of the UN, NATO and EU integration. So the Kosovars want the USA as a strong and stable mediator because, the USA knows how to use diplomacy even with sanctions and the Americans do not allow the dialogue to drag on forever without a final solution.

Book Description
The war in Kosovo was a turning point: NATO deployed its armed forces in war for the first time, and placed the controversial doctrine of 'humanitarian intervention' squarely in the world's eye. It was an armed intervention for the purpose of implementing Security Council resolutions-but without Security Council authorization. This report tries to answer a number of burning questions, such as why the international community was unable to act earlier and prevent the escalation of the conflict, as well as focusing on the capacity of the United Nations to act as global peacekeeper. The Commission recommends a new status for Kosovo, 'conditional independence', with the goal of lasting peace and security for Kosovo-and for the Balkan region in general. But many of the conslusions may be beneficially applied to conflicts the world-over.

Book Description
This book explores the prospects and limits of international intervention in building peace and creating a new state in an ethnically divided society and fragmented international order. The book offers a critical account of the international missions in Kosovo and traces the effectiveness of fluid forms of interventionism. It also explores the co-optation of peace by ethno-nationalist groups and explores how their contradictory perception of peace produced an ungovernable peace, which has been manifested with intractable ethnic antagonisms, state capture, and ignorance of the root causes, drivers, and consequences of the conflict. Under these conditions, prospects for emancipatory peace have not come from external actors, ethno-nationalist elite, and critical resistance movements, but from local and everyday acts of peace formation and agnostic forms for reconciliation. The book proposes an emancipatory agenda for peace in Kosovo embedded on post-ethnic politics and joint commitments to peace, a comprehensive agenda for reconciliation, people-centred security, and peace-enabling external assistance.

Book Description
The war in Kosovo has been a defining moment in post-Cold War Europe. Kosovo has great importance beyond the Balkans as the most ambitious attempt of the international community to prevent internal conflicts and rebuild a society destroyed by war and ethnic cleansing. As the danger of ethnic conflict prevails in the region and elsewhere around the world, the experience of Kosovo offers important lessons. This is a comprehensive survey of developments in Kosovo leading up to, during and after the war in 1999, providing additionally the international and regional framework to the conflict. It examines the underlying causes of the war, the attempts by the international community to intervene, and the war itself in spring 1999. It critically examines the international administration in Kosovo since June 1999 and contextualizes it within the relations of Kosovo to its neighbours and as part of the larger European strategy in Southeastern Europe with the stability pact. It does not seek to promote one interpretation of the conflict and its aftermath, but brings together a range of intellectual arguments from some sixteen researchers from the Balkans, the rest of Europe and North America.
