Physician Training in Hiv/Aids Care Services
Author: Pamela Mandela Idenya
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
ISBN: 9783844398892
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 80
Book Description
HCPs' Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices HIV and AIDS contribute to nearly one-fifth of disease burden in sub-Saharan Africa. The challenge of HIV and AIDS disease is further compounded by the health care providers' struggle to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to deliver effective HIV and AIDS prevention, care and treatment services. Many countries have therefore initiated human capacity development programs focusing on training of the health care providers to support HIV and AIDS prevention, care and treatment services as part of the effort to scale up HIV and AIDS services. In order to describe their characteristics and to determine the physicians' knowledge, attitudes and practices on HIV and AIDS a group of physicians attending a Training of Trainers (TOT) course in HIV and AIDS held in Nairobi were surveyed. Individual physician data characterizing their knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices was collected using an anonymous group-administered questionnaire. This study indicated that the more the number of years a physician was in health care practices the better his/her knowledge, attitudes and practices in provision of HIV and AIDS treatment and care services.

HIV/AIDS
Author: Victor R. Preedy
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128098546
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 282
Book Description
HIV/AIDS: Oxidative Stress and Dietary Antioxidants provides comprehensive coverage of oxidative stress in HIV/AIDS, focusing on both the pathological process around molecular and cellular metabolism and the complications that can arise due to nutritional imbalance. It provides a pathway for researchers and clinicians to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of oxidative stress, bridging the transdisciplinary divide between virologists, immunologists, physicians, clinical workers, food scientists and nutritionists to advance medical sciences and enable preventative treatment strategies. Very often oxidative stress is a feature of HIV/AIDs or of the treatment of HIV/AIDs. While immunologists, physicians and clinical workers understand the processes in HIV/AIDs, they may be less conversant in the science of nutrition and dietetics. Similarly, nutritionists and dietitians may be less conversant with the detailed clinical background and science of HIV/AIDs. Offers holistic coverage of HIV/AIDS and the role of oxidative stress Written by a leading team of international experts Provides a roadmap to therapeutic potential and crosses the trans- tissue or transdisciplinary divides
