Book Description
Kissing ass is one of the most important things job seekers and employees need to learn. Fortunately for the majority of our population, you do not need a degree from an Ivy to learn this skill.Nearly every one of us has the capacity to be a kiss ass. People like to feel good about themselves! If you put someone else before yourself for just a little bit of time, that person will take care of you. In life, it doesn't matter if you want to be a teacher in France or an intern on Wall Street, it's not about what you know, it's who you know, so pucker up.If you're sick of hearing this saying, then it's time to get over it and face the music. It's the truth. Thankfully, I have learned to take the "who you know" aspect to the next level. Although you are probably well over school by now, please allow me to teach you a little lesson. There will always be someone above you who will be the reason that you do or do not get the job/promotion/boyfriend etc. Whether it's your boyfriend's mother or a networking opportunity, put on your game face and kiss ass like you've never kissed one before. Here's a trick to getting on someone's good side: always ask about his or her family. Do your research and know what's going on. Don't act like you haven't already Facebook stalked their entire family tree.Keep it simple with something like, "Hey Mark, how's Becky doing? I see she's working really hard on her music." Cue the fireworks because you are in. There is nothing someone cares more about than his or her flesh and blood. If you let them know that you have taken the time to not only ask about them, but to check up on their family...can you say brownie points?Stay up to date on what is going on in your target's life. If he or she has been working hard at the gym, let them know that you see results (regardless of what he or she actually looks like).Kissing ass is basically the same thing as being someone's b*tch. Offer to get your boss a coffee on your way out the door or go out of your way to pick up their favorite pastry from the shop down the street. This will let him or her know that while you have taken the time to invest in his/her interests that you are also just a friendly and nice person who enjoys doing nice things for people. Whether you are this person or not, fake it till you freaking make it.This is where this notebook becomes essential. To know the correct ass kissing topics, you must record everything about your boss while the information is fresh. You never know when a comment the boss makes may become a valuable asset in your ass kissing mission. The boss may mention in passing on day that he is a huge Yankees fan. How fast will your stock rise when you happen to mention that you have two tickets to the game that you aren't using. You never would have been in position to pull off that nuclear ass kiss if you hadn't jotted down "Big Yankees fan" in the notebook.Good luck and happy ass kissing.

Book Description
For over a century, the Danish thinker Søren Kierkegaard (1813–55) has been at the center of a number of important discussions, concerning not only philosophy and theology, but also, more recently, fields such as social thought, psychology, and contemporary aesthetics, especially literary theory. Despite his relatively short life, Kierkegaard was an extraordinarily prolific writer, as attested to by the 26-volume Princeton University Press edition of all of his published writings. But Kierkegaard left behind nearly as much unpublished writing, most of which consists of what are called his "journals and notebooks." Kierkegaard has long been recognized as one of history's great journal keepers, but only rather small portions of his journals and notebooks are what we usually understand by the term "diaries." By far the greater part of Kierkegaard’s journals and notebooks consists of reflections on a myriad of subjects—philosophical, religious, political, personal. Studying his journals and notebooks takes us into his workshop, where we can see his entire universe of thought. We can witness the genesis of his published works, to be sure—but we can also see whole galaxies of concepts, new insights, and fragments, large and small, of partially (or almost entirely) completed but unpublished works. Kierkegaard’s Journals and Notebooks enables us to see the thinker in dialogue with his times and with himself. Kierkegaard wrote his journals in a two-column format, one for his initial entries and the second for the extensive marginal comments that he added later. This edition of the journals reproduces this format, includes several photographs of original manuscript pages, and contains extensive scholarly commentary on the various entries and on the history of the manuscripts being reproduced. Volume 8 of this 11-volume series includes five of Kierkegaard’s important "NB" journals (Journals NB21 through NB25), which cover the period from September 1850 to June 1852, and which show Kierkegaard alternately in polemical and reflective postures. The polemics emerge principally in Kierkegaard’s opposition to the increasing infiltration of Christianity by worldly concerns, a development that in his view had accelerated significantly in the aftermath of the political and social changes wrought by the Revolution of 1848. Kierkegaard understood the corrupting of Christianity to be in the interest of the powers that be, and he directed his criticism at politicians, the press, and especially the Danish Church itself, particularly church officials who claimed to be "reformers." On the reflective side, Kierkegaard delves into a number of authors and religious figures, some of them for the first time, including Montaigne, Pascal, Seneca, Savonarola, Wesley, and F. W. Newman. These journals also contain Kierkegaard’s thoughts on the decisions surrounding the publication of the "Anti-Climacus" writings: The Sickness unto Death and especially Practice in Christianity. Kierkegaard’s reader gets the sense both of a gathering storm—by the close of the last journal in this volume, the famous "attack on Christendom" is less than three years away—and a certain hesitancy: What needs reforming, Kierkegaard insists, is not "the doctrine" or "the Church," but "existences," i.e., lives.

Book Description
Darkness and Light: Private Writing as Art is an anthology of contemporary journals, diaries, and notebooks. Excerpts from the private writings of 14 sensitive and reflective women and men are included, as well as two essays that address questions surrounding the journal-as-art. The pieces contained in the collection offer a variety of writing styles, subjects, and themes. Editors Olivia Dresher and Victor Munoz feel that the domain of the journal can encompass much more than the typically historical or therapeutic, and wish to present the concept of the journal/diary/notebook as a distinct literary genre, as an open testament to the full and mysterious variety of human life and thought.
