Spooky Action at a Distance
Author: Eve Leigh
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Emigration and immigration
Languages : en
Pages :
Book Description
Eve Leigh's play Spooky Action at a Distance is a hard-hitting play about anti-immigration sentiment in Britain today. The play was commissioned and first performed by Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, in collaboration with the Royal Court Theatre, London, at the Richard Burton Theatre, Cardiff, on 28 March 2017, and was subsequently performed at the Gate Theatre, London. It is published as part of the Nick Hern Books Multiplay Drama series featuring large-cast plays specifically written to be performed by and appeal to older teenagers and young adults. The play's action is set over a few hours on 30 January 2016 in south-east Kent, 'but also right here and right now'. Wendy is on her way to a fascist demonstration in Dover, with a brick in her bag. Later that day, anti-fascist demonstrator Katie is lying in hospital with a head injury, while her friend Elliott tries to help the police with their investigations. Everyone is trying to piece together the truth, but the truth is more complicated than anyone seems to realise. The original production was directed by Elayce Ismail, and performed by members of the company.
