Book Description
This book explores the lives of John H. Jordan and the Haney family. John Jordan, the son of an Irish immigrant, was born in Ohio in 1827 and followed the Santa Fe Trail to the Southwest when he was twenty years old, befriending Kit Carson. His journeys eventually took him to the California Gold Rush in 1849 before he settled in Salem, Oregon and eventually homesteaded in Morrow County in Eastern Oregon. He married Missouri Haney, who immigrated from war torn Missouri in 1862 over the Oregon Trail when she was seven years old. The book describes the conditions the Haney's faced in Civil War Missouri before their trek across the Oregon Trail and examines the hardships they had to overcome when they homesteaded on Rhea Creek in Morrow County, Oregon. Biographical in nature, it traces the lives of John and Missouri (Haney) Jordan and their descendants. Included in the book is an essay by Letty Mabel (Haney) Puyear titled "A True Saga of a Pioneer Family." Letty Mabel grew up on Rhea Creek and in Ione, Oregon. She was born in 1885, the daughter of Joseph Haney and Margaret King. She gives a first-hand account of the lives of her pioneer family. Also, excerpts from an interview with Fred Lockley by Sterling Price Haney describe the area and its citizens. A bibliography and index were included to help the reader for future research. This is my first book and was written to condense the 19 years of research I have done on these families into one book. Other surnames focused on are Burroughs, Puryear/Puyear, Price, King and Ray.The book contains over seventy photographs from the collections of Missouri (Haney) Jordan, Mary Jo (Price) Piatt, John Hamilton Ray, Sharon Beecroft and the Morrow County Museum in Heppner, Oregon, as well as others. Eight family trees help sort out the relationships. The local histories of Livingston County, Missouri (1850-1862), the Pacific Northwest (1849-1942) and specifically Morrow County, Oregon (1859-1935) provide the setting for the struggles these pioneers endured.

Book Description
For more than seven decades, Lou Duva has been a mainstay in the boxing world. With his craggy face and the bulbous nose of a boxer with questionable defensive skills, Duva is one of the most enduring images of boxing, having climbed in and out of rings for championship fights on six different continents. In Lou Duva: A Fighting Life, you’ll hear firsthand the exhilarating story of how Duva balanced family life and his work with nineteen different world champions. The son of Italian immigrants who landed at Ellis Island and lived in Manhattan before moving the family to Paterson, New Jersey, Duva had the odds stacked against him. Rather than settling, Duva was able to claw his way out of poverty to reach the pinnacle of the boxing business, where he laid the foundation of Main Events Promotions—one of the most powerful boxing promotions companies in the sport. Lou Duva: A Fighting Life chronicles an amazing boxing career filled with ups and downs. From his training of champions including Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis to staging some of the biggest bouts in the history of boxing, including the classic match between Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns, to the notorious “Riot at the Garden,” Duva pulls no punches as he shares his Hall of Fame life for the first time. Book Description
Hank Haney's candid, surprisingly insightful account of his tumultuous six-year journey with Tiger Woods, during which the supremely gifted golfer collected six major championships and rewrote golf history. Hank was one of very few people allowed behind the curtain and observed Tiger in nearly every circumstance. There's never been a book about Tiger that is as intimate and revealing--or as wise about what it takes to coach a star athlete. From 2004 to the spring of 2010, Hank Haney was Tiger Woods's coach, and Tiger was Haney's only client. In that period, Tiger won more than a third of the tournaments he entered and six of his fourteen major titles. Haney felt hugely honored to help Tiger with his swing, and he approached the job with intense absorption and attention to detail. Haney was with Tiger 110 days a year, spoke to him over 200 days a year, and stayed at Tiger's house up to 30 days a year--sometimes affording him more contact with Tiger than either the athlete's agent or caddy. Haney saw his student in nearly every circumstance: in the locker room; on the course; with his wife, Elin; and relaxing with friends. Haney was there through it all, observing how Tiger's public identity sometimes meshed awkwardly with the roles of husband and friend, and how the former child prodigy came to have a conflicted relationship with the game that made him famous.
