The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between characteristics of the sales control systems in the Lebanese pharmaceutical industry and the resulting level of salesperson job satisfaction. The study empirically assessed the extent to which satisfaction is related to the control systems based on the Anderson and Oliver (1987) work who classified control systems into two main categories an outcome based and a behavior based approach to control. Data responses were collected from 40 sales employees working for sister companies operating under the same top sales management, the sample companies chosen differed only with the sales supervisors who had opposing sales control styles. The findings indicate that behavior based approach to control is mainly the most to positively influence directly sales employees job satisfaction and indirectly the quality of the service and the customer satisfaction. These results should help Lebanese companies in the pharmaceutical industry assess in a better way the quality of control exercised on their sales force and may facilitate the understanding of the relation between management and its sales force. This research's originality and value consist of its contribution to the sales industry in the Lebanese Pharmaceutical market since it is one of the very few conducted in this field and the only one that relates Lebanese sales control to employee satisfaction.

Limited research exists about the determinants of sales organization effectiveness in pharmaceutical sales organizations. To fill this void, sales management control, sales territory design, and sales force performance are conceptualized as antecedents to sales organization effectiveness in pharmaceutical sales organizations. The results of the structural equation model tested suggested that pharmaceutical sales representatives perform better and are more effective when they are satisfied with sales territory design because of its significant relationship with sales force behavioral performance. The present study suggests sales force behavioral performance leads to sales organization effectiveness through its significant relationship to sales force outcome performance. These findings are somewhat different to those from similar studies in other industries, and identify some important implications for sales leaders in the pharmaceutical industry as well as suggesting a number of important research directions.
