Book Description
Sigüenza is a little known gem among the historical cities in Spain, situated in the province of Guadalajara about hundred and thirty kilometers north from Madrid. Sigüenza can be one of the oldest cities in Spain, much older that the 900 years celebrated in 2024. Sigüenza like other towns in the region is unique as it did not experience the industrial revolution. That is why visiting it is a great opportunity to discover almost intact Medieval and Renaissance architecture. Sigüenza has also been the scene of many battles throuhout its history. The region was populated since the Paleolitic. Very rich water sources attracted people from early on. The river Henares runs through Sigüenza. Two other rivers flow on its flanks, Rio Dulce and Rio Salado. Rio Salado (the Salted river) makes it very rich in natural salt extracted in salt pans. Situated on the high plateau of Castille, Sigüenza is about over 1000 meters above sea level.

Book Description
The first Nativity Scene was a live one created by Saint Francis of Assisi in 1223. He wanted to promote the reverence of the Christian family and had villagers with animals recreate the birth of Jesus. This became wildly popular all over the Christian world, but especially in Europe where it gets colder in the winter the further north you get. So there is a limit to this kind of performance. Naturally it then evolved with human size figures mainly out-doors and with smaller figurines you can have in-doors and which can be there for a longer period without nourishment or sleep. Please see our other books on Nativities, in Spain and Central Europe, We wish all a Merry Christmas and hope you will enjoy our selection of photos.

His legacy is shown in beautiful paintings. He was an unrivalled general, although he did make occasional mistakes both on the tactical and the strategic level - the most significant was his attack on Russia, which annihilated most of his Grande Armée and led to his downfall. One of the most fascinating periods of his caréer was his expedition to Egypt 1797-1801 and the most important incident here was the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, which allowed the deciphering of the Egyptian old writing, the hieroglyphs. The Muslims had chopped it up and used it as building material at Fort St Julien. We hope the readers will enjoy our selection and the activity. We hope it will contribute to a better understanding of Napoleon, his time and of art itself.

Book Description
The first fireboats from the late 18th century were tugboats, fitted with firefighting equipment. Modern fireboats are capable of pumping sometimes tens of thousands of gallons of water per minute and are very fast. Fireboats are used for fighting fires on docks and shore side warehouses or even wildfires as they can directly attack fires when close by. Fureboats also have an effectively unlimited supply of water available, pumping directly from below the hull. Fireboats are most usually seen by the public when welcoming a fleet or historical ships with a display of their water moving capabilities, throwing large arcs of water in every direction. We honor all service members on 4th of July and hope you will enjoy our selection of photos.
