Les années 90 sont encore plus que les précédentes décennies porteuses d'interrogations sur la validité des interventions sociales et les compétences professionnelles des intervenants sociaux. Ces derniers sont, aujourd'hui, très directement mis ou remis en cause et juges de moins en moins compétents pour traiter seuls les questions sociales. Ils sont concurrences par d'autres agents, professionnels ou bénévoles qui, comme eux, sont ou se sentent concernés par les difficultés sociales du moment. Au sein de la nouvelle dynamique qui semble s'appliquer actuellement à la définition des +questions sociales; et aux +solidarités essentielles;, les rôles et fonctions d'information, de communication et de médiatisation, prennent une place croissante ; elles ne donnent pas vraiment plus de moyens pour insérer, accompagner, soigner les personnes atteintes d'un handicap ou souffrant d'une inadaptation ou d'une forme d'exclusion mais d'autres moyens et surtout une autre visibilité dans l'espace public qui vont influer sur les conditions d'existence et d'exercice de plusieurs groupes professionnels. Notre recherche montre les mécanismes par lesquels l'intervention sociale reçoit des medias des éléments qui vont entrer dans sa construction ou reconstruction et comment ces medias s'alimentent d'éléments des questions sociales pour poursuivre leur propre construction. En d'autres termes, étudier d'un cote ce qui est médiatisable aujourd'hui dans les interventions sociales (le travail médiatique du social) et d'un autre, la part d'intervention sociale qui revient actuellement aux medias et principalement à la télévision (le travail social des medias). Appréhender la nature des co-constructions amorcées ou opérées par le tramage de ces deux champs professionnels renvoie à observer et à analyser les changements dans la configuration et la disposition, dans l'espace public, des situations et identités professionnelles mais également dans la distribution et l'interprétation des rôles de chacun d'entre eux. On observe déjà que les transformations à l'œuvre dans l'un et l'autre de ces champs apparaissent comme autant d'éléments d'un processus global de professionnalisation et de déprofessionnalisation et participent de l'articulation d'un nouveau dispositif de production de la réalité sociale légitime

Social isolation and loneliness are serious yet underappreciated public health risks that affect a significant portion of the older adult population. Approximately one-quarter of community-dwelling Americans aged 65 and older are considered to be socially isolated, and a significant proportion of adults in the United States report feeling lonely. People who are 50 years of age or older are more likely to experience many of the risk factors that can cause or exacerbate social isolation or loneliness, such as living alone, the loss of family or friends, chronic illness, and sensory impairments. Over a life course, social isolation and loneliness may be episodic or chronic, depending upon an individual's circumstances and perceptions. A substantial body of evidence demonstrates that social isolation presents a major risk for premature mortality, comparable to other risk factors such as high blood pressure, smoking, or obesity. As older adults are particularly high-volume and high-frequency users of the health care system, there is an opportunity for health care professionals to identify, prevent, and mitigate the adverse health impacts of social isolation and loneliness in older adults. Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults summarizes the evidence base and explores how social isolation and loneliness affect health and quality of life in adults aged 50 and older, particularly among low income, underserved, and vulnerable populations. This report makes recommendations specifically for clinical settings of health care to identify those who suffer the resultant negative health impacts of social isolation and loneliness and target interventions to improve their social conditions. Alcohol use by young people is extremely dangerous - both to themselves and society at large. Underage alcohol use is associated with traffic fatalities, violence, unsafe sex, suicide, educational failure, and other problem behaviors that diminish the prospects of future success, as well as health risks â€" and the earlier teens start drinking, the greater the danger.
