Book Description
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine held a workshop on August 22â€"23, 2018, in Washington, DC, to explore medical and public health preparedness for a nuclear incident. The event brought together experts from government, nongovernmental organizations, academia, and the private sector to explore current assumptions behind the status of medical and public health preparedness for a nuclear incident, examine potential changes in these assumptions in light of increasing concerns about the use of nuclear warfare, and discuss challenges and opportunities for capacity building in the current threat environment. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

Book Description
The explosion on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the consequent reactor fire resulted in an unprecedented release of radioactive material from a nuclear reactor and adverse consequences for the public and the environment. Although the accident occurred nearly two decades ago, controversy still surrounds the real impact of the disaster. Therefore the IAEA, in cooperation with other UN bodies, the World Bank, as well as the competent authorities of Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine, established the Chernobyl Forum in 2003. The mission of the Forum was to generate 'authoritative consensual statements' on the environmental consequences and health effects attributable to radiation exposure arising from the accident as well as to provide advice on environmental remediation and special health care programmes, and to suggest areas in which further research is required. This report presents the findings and recommendations of the Chernobyl Forum concerning the environmental effects of the Chernobyl accident.

Book Description
In accident measures, protective measures must be introduced and implemented in such a way that the net result of the measures is positive for the individual and the society at large. The Nordic model for the management of food supplies and food safety after nuclear accidents addresses production, distribution, sale and consumption of food and drink. The model contains specific recommendations on intervention levels for distribution and consumption.

Book Description
This handbook is a practical aid to legislative drafting that brings together, for the first time, model texts of provisions covering all aspects of nuclear law in a consolidated form. Organized along the same lines as the Handbook on Nuclear Law, published by the IAEA in 2003, and containing updated material on new legal developments, this publication represents an important companion resource for the development of new or revised nuclear legislation, as well as for instruction in the fundamentals of nuclear law. It will be particularly useful for those Member States embarking on new or expanding existing nuclear programmes.

Book Description
This safety guide represents an international consensus and understanding on principles for intervention and numerical values for generic intervention levels. It became clear during the Chernobyl Project that there was a need for clarification of the international guidance on intervention and, moreover, for a simple set of internally consistent intervention levels having some generic application internationally. The recommendations in this publication are the basis for the standards and numerical guidance related to intervention contained in the International Basic Safety Standards for Protection against Ionizing Radiation and for the Safety of Radiation Sources (jointly sponsored by FAO, IAEA, ILO, OECD/NEA, PAHO and WHO).
