Institutes of Holland, Or, Manual of Law, Practice, and Mercantile Law
Author: Joannes van der Linden

Pages : 596
Book Description
Excerpt from Institutes of Holland, Or, Manual of Law, Practice, and Mercantile Law: For the Use of Judges, Lawyers, Merchants, and All Who Wish to Have a General View of the Law I feel that a few words are necessary to explain the publication of this new translation. No doubt many readers of the original text have discovered that Mr. Henry's translation is not entirely free from inaccuracies. These errors might have been corrected, and the translation republished, had it not been that serious difficulties as to the copyright arose, upon learning which I was induced to translate the whole book over again. I intended at the same time to bring the law contained in the Institutes as much as possible up to date; but, after some time and labour spent upon it, the idea had to be abandoned, as I found that it would take a long time to carry it out properly, and that Mr. Henry's translation was rapidly going out of print. The old name of The Institutes of Holland has been retained for obvious reasons. I have tried to avoid as much as possible translating technical Dutch terms by words which to the English lawyer convey a somewhat different meaning, and have preferred leaving the original word as it is, and explaining it by a foot-note. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work.
