Book Description
This report presents results of inspections of rubble-mound coastal structures monitored previously under the Monitoring Completed Navigation Projects (MCNP) Program. Expedient, low-cost walking inspections were performed at 11 sites. Positions of breakwater and jetty armor units were compared with their positions in previous aerial photography and photogrammetric surveys. Settlement of portions of the structures as well as voids in their armor cover also was noted, and photographs of the structures were obtained. Summaries of inspection results as well as recommendations are presented in this report. The work was conducted under the "Periodic Inspections" work unit of the MCNP Program.

Periodic Inspections of Kahului and Laupahoehoe Breakwaters, Hawaii
Author: Dennis G. Markle
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Breakwaters
Languages : en
Pages : 100
Book Description
Under the Monitoring of Completed Coastal Projects (MCCP) work unit, Periodic Inspections, past MCCP structures and structures with unique design aspects that have probable applications to other projects are considered for inclusion in a periodic monitoring program. The emphasis of the work is to measure the long-term response of the above-water portions of the structures to their environment. The rubble-mound breakwaters at Kahului Harbor, Maui, Hawaii, and Laupahoehoe Boat Launching Facility, Laupahoehoe Point, Hawaii, Hawaii, are armored with concrete armor unit and concrete rib caps. By means of limited land surveys, low-level helicopter inspections with 35-mm photography, aerial photography, and photogrammetric analysis base conditions have been established for the breakwaters. Now that the base (control) conditions have been defined and a method has been developed to closely compare subsequent years of high- resolution aerial photography of the Kahului and Laupahoehoe breakwaters, these sites will be revisited during future years to gather data by which assessments can be made on the long-term response of the structures to their environment. Insight gathered from these efforts will allow definite decisions to be made based on sound data as to whether or not closer surveillance and/or repair of a structure is required to reduce the chance that it will fail catastrophically.

Coastal Structures 2007 (In 2 Volumes) - Proceedings Of The 5th Coastal Structures International Conference, Cst07
Author: Alberto Lamberti
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814467073
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 2084
Book Description
Coastal Structures are undergoing renewal and innovation to better serve the needs of our society - from environmental co-existence and habitat enhancement to risk management. The CSt07 conference is the fifth in a series that highlight significant progress in the innovation, design and construction of coastal structures. Proceedings of these CSt conferences have yielded milestone works, frequently cited references in the field. This two-volume proceedings contains the final revised version of 178 papers that have been reviewed, selected and discussed at the CSt07 conference. The volume brings to readers a comprehensive range of contributions, covering all aspects of research, design, construction, and maintenance of coastal structures including new up-to-date interesting topics, such as tsunamis and storm surge defences, climate change, piled coastal structures as well as ecological issues, a new addition to the traditional program.
