Book Description
Allan Kardec recommended prudence and knowledge as necessary preparation for the practice of mediumship, as they are the means for avoiding conscious and unconscious errors. In the Invisible is an indispensable book for students of mediumistic experimentation. Léon Denis wrote this treatise on experimental Spiritism, which, besides studying the laws that govern the communications between the invisible and physical worlds, presents a large number of spirit-related cases researched by scholars and the conclusions they reached. The author concludes that, “The constant and in-depth study of the invisible world, which is also the world of causes, will be the great resource and the inexhaustible reservoir on which thought and life must be nourished. Mediumship is the key.”

Invisible Hosts
Author: Elizabeth Schleber Lowry
Publisher: SUNY Press
ISBN: 1438465998
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 188
Book Description
Provides a rhetorical analysis of female spirit mediums autobiographies in the historical and social contexts of Victorian-era America. Invisible Hosts explores how the central tenets of Spiritualism influenced ways in which women conceived of their bodies and their civic responsibilities, arguing that Spiritualist ideologies helped to lay the foundation for the social and political advances made by women in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. As public figures, female spirit mediums of the Victorian era were often accused of unfeminine (and therefore transgressive) behavior. A rhetorical analysis of nineteenth-century spirit mediums autobiographies reveals how these women convinced readers of their authenticity both as respectable women and as psychics. The author argues that these womens autobiographies reflect an attempt to emulate feminine virtues even as their interpretation and performance of these virtues helped to transform prevailing gender stereotypes. She demonstrates that the social performance central to the production of womens autobiography is uniquely complicated by Spiritualist ideology. Such complications reveal new information about how women represented themselves, gained agency, and renegotiated nineteenth-century gender roles.

Photographing the Invisible
Author: James Coates
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Photography of the invisible
Languages : en
Pages : 462
Book Description
In this 100 year old book the mechanics of spirit photography are explained by apparent spirits communicating through mediums. It has to do with ether and semi-materialization apparently. However, the presence of a medium before the taking of the photograph is essential, reportedly. In addition, the medium should be morally and physically healthy and able to maintain a passive mental state. Anxiety is reportedly a great hindrance. That way, the subconscious thought forms are liberated. There's a photo of Alfred Russel Wallace and his deceased mother. Wallace states, "The facts were too many for me." Photos of people's doubles were apparently also possible, such as the photo taken of medium Stainton Moses and his double. Mr. Coates includes a photo of himself and his dead wife. Thought photography is discussed towards the end of the book, which apparently dates from 1876. Images of objects enter and fix themselves in our brains through the retina, and then they can leave our brains by the same route, reportedly. Coates includes a letter from a correspondent who reportedly received evidence that there is a large band of workers in the spirit world who are "helping to convince the Western World that there are things and beings which cannot be cognised by ordinary sense faculty." A good book to generate conversation about

Fundamentals of Spiritism
Author: Jon Aizpurua
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 9781484101636
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 348
Book Description
Spiritism is one of the most beautiful and complete systems of thought that a human being can find to obtain the answers it longs for, in its relentless quest to know and understand the meaning of existence. Completely demonstrated in this book, it presents itself with an extraordinary rich capacity of synthesis, in the evidence of the facts that it investigates, and in the logic of its philosophy with its deep moral and social consequences. Within its pages, the reader will receive great intellectual and spiritual satisfaction exploring a systematic study of the soul, the afterlife, psychic abilities, mediumship, and reincarnation and how these influence our lives. JON AIZPURUA makes a careful consideration regarding the teachings of Spiritism, generally a spiritualist doctrine, but adheres to a more scientific approach. Thus, drawing a specific and definite dividing line of what Spiritism truly is, and between, all superstitious beliefs and practices that with deplorable frequency is presented in its name. Founded on the framework suggested by the wise French educator and paranormal researcher ALLAN KARDEC, its principle statements are a flag that flutters to the winds of genuine spirituality. Few books have brought together the rigor of its scientific basis with clarity to the general public. The study of this work is not just an acquisition of new knowledge, but is a deep spiritual experience.

The Afterlife Experiments
Author: Gary E. Schwartz
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 074344258X
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 379
Book Description
An esteemed scientist's personal journey from skepticism to wonder and awe provides astonishing answers to a timeless question: Is there life after death? Are love and life eternal? This exciting account presents provocative evidence that could upset everything that science has ever taught. Daring to risk his worldwide academic reputation, Dr. Gary E. Schwartz, along with his research partner Dr. Linda Russek, asked some of the most prominent mediums in America -- including John Edward, Suzane Northrup, and George Anderson -- to become part of a series of extraordinary experiments to prove, or disprove, the existence of an afterlife. THE AFTERLIFE EXPERIMENTS This riveting narrative, with its electrifying transcripts, puts the reader on the scene of a breakthrough scientific achievement: contact with the beyond under controlled laboratory conditions. In stringently monitored experiments, leading mediums attempted to contact dead friends and relatives of "sitters" who were masked from view and never spoke, depriving the mediums of any cues. The messages that came through stunned sitters and researchers alike. Here, as they unfolded in the laboratory setting, are uncanny revelations about a son's suicide, what a deceased father wanted to say about his last days in a coma, the transformation of a man's lifelong doubts about the afterlife, and, most amazing of all, a forecast of a beloved spouse's death. Dr. Schwartz was forced by the overwhelmingly positive data to abandon his skepticism, reaching some startling conclusions. Compelling from the first page to the last, The Afterlife Experiments is the amazing documentation of groundbreaking experiments you will never forget.
