Quick Response is an umbrella term for strategies to cut lead times and to eliminate unnecessary production costs from a manufacturing plant to a consumer market. In particular, the textile and apparel industries need strategies to quickly respond to a changeable market in the international supply chain. As the industry performs these strategies, problems can occur which interfere with implementing efficient Quick Response strategies. Until now, the textile and apparel industries have mainly focused on high technological systems to solve the problems; much development of the high technology has been accomplished in the international supply chain. In addition, the industries should recognize the importance of intangible factors (e.g., communication among sectors) because they might give rise to diverse problems in their supply chain. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the intangible factors and to research how they have had an influence on Quick Response strategies in the international supply chain. To investigate these factors, the study employed a case study which involved interviews with people who worked for-AGABANG Co. Six individuals in several positions of AGABANG Co. were represented in the interviews; two supervisors who were in charge of brands for Wal-Mart, a designer who developed and made production samples for Wal-Mart, an export staff member who sourced manufacturing systems and controlled manufacturing schedules, a manufacturer who managed manufacturing operations in China, and a subcontractor who provided cloth. Interviewees had working experiences with foreign buyers and manufacturers, and clearly testified to the intangible factors through their cumulated experiences. Through the interviews, this study identified various intangible factors in the international supply chain. In particular, the research found that one of the most critical the factors was pressure from buyers to reduce production costs. Also, based on the findings from this study, it was concluded that effective Quick Response systems require teamwork and relationships among sectors. As companies strive to reduce production costs and therefore move facilities building these relationships become challenging. Many textile and apparel companies hope to efficiently run their systems and strategies as they solve these problems. Therefore, the results of this research will be helpful for the textile and apparel companies that want to improve and develop their Quick Response strategies.

The gap between demand for consumer goods and their efficient supply is greater now than at any other time, and is widening as consumers' wants become less predictable, and suppliers struggle to meet them. Quick Response (QR) is both a management paradigm and a methodology that allows supply systems to react quickly to changes while improving their performance. QR aims to help organize a business in the face of problems associated with the vast array of goods and services now to be found in consumer markets. It is particularly relevant to the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and Fashion industries. QR works by compressing the time between product or service design concept and appearance on the retail shelf. It then takes advantage of such recent technologies as Point of Sale (PoS) tracking and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to constantly up-date estimates of true consumer demand, and then places intelligent re-orders for goods with flexible manufacturers and their suppliers. One of the features of this book is the demonstration that the range of industries able to benefit from the application of QR methodologies is extremely wide. To what extent are Connecticut’s public libraries utilizing Quick Response (QR) codes to provide or improve service to their mobile-using patrons? If not, why not? This paper examines the results of a survey of Connecticut’s 192 public libraries, soliciting feedback on awareness of the QR code technology, the service(s) public libraries use QR codes for, and identification of any perceived barriers inhibiting their use. Results suggest that for most of the 82 libraries who responded to the survey, interest in service enhancement through use of QR codes is low, with only 16 libraries currently using QR codes and only four likely to begin doing so within twelve months of taking the survey. Significant contributing factors cited by respondents included lack of awareness and interest on the part of both patrons and staff, along with a belief that the requirement for a smart phone excludes too many patrons–indicating that barriers that existed when QR codes were first introduced over twenty years ago remain an issue.

The quick response (QR) supply chain system has received a great deal of attention in the recent past because of the advances in many new technologies such as RFID systems and mobile computing. Establishment of supply chain practices, such as collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment (CPFR), and vendor managed inventory (VMI) has also contributed to the development of QR in industrial practice. In view of the growing importance of QR, we review a selection of papers in the supply chain management literature that focus on the innovative measures associated with QR. By classifying the literature into three major areas, namely, supply information management, demand information management, and values of information and supporting technologies, we derive insights into the current state of knowledge in each area, and identify some associated challenges. We also suggest future research directions. To conclude, we believe that this paper provides useful information which would motivate academicians as well as practitioners to effectively design, control, and implement QR programs.
