Book Description
Italian gardens vary widely according to their historical date and geographic location. This collection approaches Italian gardens of all periods, from the middle ages to modern times, and it ranges widely throughout the peninsula, from Genoa to Sicily, the Veneto to Liguria, and Ferrara to Florence. The authors are a distinguished group of Italian, American, English and German scholars, with different backgrounds in art history, literature, architecture, planning, and cultural history. The explorations of the subject from these different perspectives illuminate not only their own disciplines, but are concerned to make many fresh connections between garden art and the politics of nationalism, between the art of gardens and urban infrastructure, between cultural movements like freemasonry and site planning, between design and planting materials. The book offers therefore a narrative of the garden by selecting ten high points of its history, which are introduced with a consideration by the volume editor of the fresh challenges to contemporary Italian garden history.

Book Description
Early modern princely courts were not only inhabited by humans, but also by a large number of animals. This coexistence of non-human living beings had crucial impacts on the spatial organization, the social composition and cultural life at these courts. The contributions enrich our knowledge on another aspect of court life and invite to reconsider our basic understandings of court, courtiers and court society.

Book Description
Curious and detailed collection of images of botanical subjects belonging to the citrus family, made by artists, scientists, biologists and anthropologists. Artists of the past engaged in the realization of real museums of natural history. One of them, among the best known, the Italian Aldrovandi called his work “theater” or “microcosm of nature,” he placed at the disposal of 18.000 scholars “diversity of natural things” and 7.000 “dried plants in fifteen volumes”. 17 volumes containing thousands of beautiful watercolors of animals, plants, minerals and monsters were part of the collection. These responded to the precise Aldrovandi and colleagues’s awareness of the images’ central role, as part of the research, that in their opinion were indeed very useful for the circulation of knowledge, offering a faithful portrait of the “natural things”...

This volume is a full-scale commentary on the extant fragments of Acusilaus of Argos, commonly regarded as one of the earliest Greek mythographers (VI-V cent. BCE). To encapsulate his contribution to archaic literature, his book on Genealogies is described as a "Rhapsody in Prose", that foregrounds especially the exegetical nature of his book, which rewrote the most ancient past on the basis of the most authoritative epic poems.

Book Description
This volume contains thirteen contributions on the origin of the feminine gender and its relation to the collective in the Indo-European parent language. The Indo-European daughter languages have got mostly a three-gender system, however the early attested Anatolian languages owned only two genders. In this respect, it is debatable whether the feminine gender is primary or arose secondarily from another morphological category. Due to special morphological and morphosyntactic phenomena it is also questionable whether the neuter plural of the individual languages continues an inflectional category or it was rather grammaticalized from an original word formation category collective. The authors suggest different approaches on the question of the relationship between feminine and collective.
