Book Description
Originally published as If Ye Shall Ask, this small book on prayer comprises lectures Chambers gave at the Bible Training College in London where he focused on all aspects of prayer, from prayer’s simplicity to intercessory prayer for others. He believed that prayer changes the one praying as much as prayer moves the hand of God. The foreword introduces readers to a simple man of keen insight who, regardless of who he was with or what they were doing, without warning would say, Off with your hats, it is good to pray everywhere, followed by a brief prayer. Chambers was a spiritual realist who believed prayer enabled God to perform His order through those who pray, even though he didn’t consider prayer a natural function of the worldly minded. However, he knew prayer was a way of getting to know God that would develop the life of God in those who prayed. This powerful book on prayer, filled with wisdom and keen perception, is one to savor slowly and return to time and time again. Written by a devout man of God who shows us what we are missing when we don’t have the life of God in us. There aren’t enough stars to value its worth, whether five, ten, fifty or a hundred. Cited from review by Gail Welborn, Seattle Christian Book Review Examiner.

Book Description
From bestselling author Michael Shermer, an investigation of the evolution of morality that is "a paragon of popularized science and philosophy" The Sun (Baltimore) A century and a half after Darwin first proposed an "evolutionary ethics," science has begun to tackle the roots of morality. Just as evolutionary biologists study why we are hungry (to motivate us to eat) or why sex is enjoyable (to motivate us to procreate), they are now searching for the very nature of humanity. In The Science of Good and Evil, science historian Michael Shermer explores how humans evolved from social primates to moral primates; how and why morality motivates the human animal; and how the foundation of moral principles can be built upon empirical evidence. Along the way he explains the implications of scientific findings for fate and free will, the existence of pure good and pure evil, and the development of early moral sentiments among the first humans. As he closes the divide between science and morality, Shermer draws on stories from the Yanamamö, infamously known as the "fierce people" of the tropical rain forest, to the Stanford studies on jailers' behavior in prisons. The Science of Good and Evil is ultimately a profound look at the moral animal, belief, and the scientific pursuit of truth.

The Purpose of this two volume series is to make easily available selections from lectures transcribed and published in four volumes as Teachings of the Book of Mormon by Hugh W. Nibley, Professor at Brigham Young University. The Editor text scanned all four volumes of the series to about half the original by eliminating those portions the Editor felt not necessary to the verses under discussion. No other changes were made to the original Nibley four volumes. Readers of the Book of Mormon will benefit from Hugh Nibley's extensive historical and linguistic background from a lifetime of study of ancient documents. The Editor has made an effort to provide full scripture references at the beginning of each paragraph which were not available in the original editions by Hugh Nibley. These references will be helpful to students and teachers of the Book of Mormon. The numbers at the beginning of each paragraph refer to the page number of the First Edition of each of the four volumes and will alert the reader to where omissions may be found in the original four volumes. The Editor has expanded most chapter topic summaries as shown in brackets. Book Description
Worship is not a trite act. It is the life of the Christian. When the Christian hears God in his word, or from the mouth of the biblical minister, and is pressed to obey him in all things as exemplified in his word, such obedience is for his very life. “For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life,” (Deut. 32:47). In this obedience, God has not left his ordinances of worship to the inventions of men. God has set down certain specific requirements which are to be followed. It was a hallmark of the Reformation that God alone determines the manner in which sinners approach him. God’s will, in this way, has reference to the regulative principle of life as well as to the Laws which God has made known and prescribed to man in order that his walk might be regulated accordingly. So, God regulates his worship with the intention of allowing fallen, sinful people to come before him and sanctify his name in a manner that God requires: in holiness. This is the substance of Burroughs’ treatise Gospel Worship. Worship is for God, not for us. Sadly, that simple statement is foreign to our day. Yet God is as clear today as He was to Nadab and Abihu in the Old Testament: He will be treated as holy by those who come into His presence (Lev. 10:1-3). In this treasured work, Jeremiah Burroughs masterfully provides guidelines to facilitate the reader to move closer to God in worship. Through 14 sermons, Burroughs carefully explains the right manner of worshipping God in general, and the three great ordinances of hearing the Word, receiving the Lord’s Supper, and prayer. Burroughs demonstrates that true worship is reverent, focused on the holiness of God. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.
