Book Description
"Philanthropy is typically considered to be within the province of billionaires. This book broadens that perspective by highlighting modest acts of giving by African Americans on behalf of their own people. Examining the important tradition of Black philanthropy, this work documents its history: its beginning as a response to discrimination through self-help among freed slaves, and its expansion to include the support of education, religion, the arts, and legal efforts on behalf of civil rights. Using diverse approaches, the authors illuminate a new world of philanthropy - one that will be of interest to scholars and students alike. Chapters review the contributions of such major figures as Booker T. Washington and Thurgood Marshall, and discuss the often-surprising practices and methods of contemporary African American donors."--Jacket.

Book Description
In 1924, the Virginia State Legislature passed the Racial Integrity Act. The act banned interracial marriage down to "a single drop" of African blood. Just three months later, Curtis W. Harris was born in Dendron, Virginia. Harris was the sixth child of impoverished sharecroppers, living in a desolate outpost of the Commonwealth, but in time he would lead the fight against the Racial Integrity Act and many other racially restrictive laws. Despite being arrested multiple times and beaten, Rev. Harris would help reverse centuries of racial discrimination that began when slaves first arrived in Virginia in 1619. Author William Paul Lazarus tells the story of Harris' determination in the face of intense hostility, which took him to the forefront of America's Civil Rights Movement, arm-in-arm with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Book Description
Rhett Massey as an administrative professional has managed the offices and provided confidential support to chief executive officers, presidents, and other senior-level executives at hospitals, hospices, social services agencies, and the federal government who saw it as their mission to ameliorate the suffering of those who sought their services. Believing that we have been called to the 'ministry of helps, ' Massey allows the Lord to use his hands in very unique and different ways to brighten the corner in which he lives. He adds this book, To Live Again, A New Beginning to his literary accomplishments. Massey is the writer, producer, and director of a well-received and much-talked about play: If God Is Dead, which touched the hearts and minds of those who attended the performance and caused some to commit and others to recommit their lives to the Lord. In addition, he allowed the Lord to use him while in undergraduate school to create and develop a monthly newsletter, The Watsonite, and served as its editor-in-chief. The mission of the newsletter was to keep students who graduated and moved away abreast of the happenings at the church as well as the membership in general. Since being struck by a debilitating illness that has left him disabled and unable to perform the duties of his profession, Massey continues to believe that God yet has work for him to do and is conscientiously intent on 'occupying until He comes.' To Live Again, A New Beginning is the latest creative endeavor by Massey; but chances are will not be his last.

Book Description
Living a GOD–centered life is the only way to have peace, joy and “Success” on this earthly journey. GOD is an awesome GOD. This book will help you to not only hear the voice of GOD but persuade you to immediately start following GOD’s Words to achieve “Success.” As you may know or will learn, life is an amazing journey. It is full of opportunities, disappointments, excitement and the unknown. 1 Peter 1:13 states, “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” GOD wants to help us achieve our goals and if it’s in His will, GOD will make your greatest dream a reality. So, never give up, keep on believing, expecting and declaring that good things will happen for you each day. I am still hopeful that eventually there will be peace on this earth if it’s GOD’s will. John 14:27(NIV) states, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Book Description
I am the great grandson of a black Baptist preacher, Alfred “Parson” Williams, founding pastor, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Tampa, Florida. I want to share with you the path I remember following with the aid of helpers, to my personal fulfillment as a minister in the cohort of United Methodist preachers. I had not thought that much about my maternal great-grandfather. And certainly, not at all about a career as a preacher! Through my sharing what I recall of my path, my intent and hope is that the reader will see that his/her path, like mine, turns on forward movement. The movement of oneself in a chosen goal-centered direction that is neither deterred by obstacles nor thrown off course by crises-yet-to-unfold. A movement of oneself in which your focus is sharpened by what you take as the source of your vision and power to move. For me, I saw my Source as God, The Almighty. In any direction of your movement, your helpers can and will appear either as an animate or inanimate entity, as like or unlike you racially or culturally or by some other measure. Yours is to move forward in awareness of your own auto-correct power to review and revise decisions you will have made yesterday or yesteryear.
