Book Description
Erik Erikson, best known for his life-cycle theory and concept of the identity crisis, proposed that we are comprised of a number of selves. In several earlier books, including At Home in the World, Donald Capps has suggested that the emotional separation of young children--especially boys--from their mothers results in the development of a melancholy self. In this book, Capps employs Erikson's assignment of an inherent strength to each stage of the life cycle and proposes that the life-enhancing strengths of the childhood years (hope, will, purpose, and competence) are central to the development of a resourceful self, and that this self counters the life-diminishing qualities of the melancholy self. Focusing on Erikson's own writings, Capps identifies the four primordial resources that Erikson associates with childhood--humor, play, dreams, and hope--and shows how these resources assist children in confronting life's difficulties and challenges. Capps further suggests that the resourceful self that develops in childhood is central to Jesus' own vision of what we as adults may become if we follow the lead of little children.

Book Description
I am strong. I am brave. I can handle anything. This book empowers your child by providing an affirmation for every single day of the year. With a different theme for each month – such as positivity, calm, and adventure – children can build their self-esteem and resilience by focusing on what matters to them, through the power of positive thinking. Perfect for children aged 7 to 9, this book not only educates but inspires. Affirmations tied to certain key events from history provide motivation and encouragement. On 17th April, learn about the Apollo 13 mission and discover how to stay calm under pressure. On 1st December, Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her seat on the bus links to the affirmation “I stand up for myself and others.” Mindful activities encourage children to try practical techniques to explore the affirmations further – creating a “happiness jar” helps kids come up with their own affirmations, building a “coping wheel” empowers kids to manage stress, and making friendship bracelets helps enact the affirmation “I am a caring friend.” Affirmations have been proven to help overcome negative thoughts by reminding us of what matters. I Am, I Can use beautiful illustrations to bring the daily doses of wisdom to life and encourage visualization – a powerful tool in promoting self-belief and keeping anxiety at bay.

Book Description
Calgarron is the story of one man's life from boy to warrior to lover to husband and father. Set to the background of the Japanese invasion of the Malay Peninsula and the Second World War, his fast-paced novel moves through Asia, Australia, USA, and Europe. War brings injury, friendship, and love, but his family secrets shatter his life and grip on reality. Lavinia Calgarron looked down at her son fast asleep in his bed. The last hundred years' war had ravished not only her own family but especially the Calgarron family. Lavinia had lost her husband during the First World War, and now deep into the Second World War, the only Calgarron left lay wounded in a bed in Darwin hospital. He was the captain of a destroyer and had returned in triumph from a rescue mission on Timor but in the process had broken his leg. Lewis Calgarron lay sleeping; he was thinking of Sophie, the woman he loved. They had met under such unusual circumstances thrown together by war. She had lost everything; he had lost estates, wealth, and status because of the war with Japan. He needed to build back that fortune, and he felt under self-applied pressure to produce an heir to carry the dynasty forward. He was determined to not only win the war but to win the peace. "Lavinia out!" he heard. He opened his eyes and saw his mother standing near the door. Lewis thought he was dead! He smelt her first, that unmistakably scent, her musk. He slowly turned his head and looked deep into Sophie's eyes. She smiled at him and whispered, "Lewis Calgarron, I love you." He smiled back at her and said, "I love you too. Was that my mother?"
