Not illustrated. 1900 edition. Excerpt: ... a line from Shakespeare is strangely accepted as proof that the World Beyond is "a country from whose bourne no traveller returns." It is to be regretted that this " far, far away " idea is still entertained by many. It creates an imagined gulf between us and the Spiritual Universe; it minimises our chances of rightly estimating what we are; it adds bitterness to the pang of separation; it detracts from the comfort that we might draw from the Gospel of Christ; it leaves behind the greater part of "the sting of death," and lastly, it obscures a glorious truth disclosed in the Word of God. To that word we turn for the answer, " Where is the Spiritual World?" The Spiritual World is everywhere, and interpenetrates the Physical So accustomed are we to think and speak of the World of Spirit as occupying a defined and particular spot in the universe, and as being altogether detached from the physical man and the physical earth, that to many it is a novel and startling thought that the Spiritual World (or to use a more accurate term--the Spiritual Universe) extends everywhere. And yet, undoubtedly, this is a great truth disclosed by the Bible. That Book, indeed, shows that there are particular spheres or localities in the Spiritual World, but it also shows that the World itself extends far and away beyond them. It cannot be restricted to any one spot or spots, for the reason that there is no point in all the vast universe where it is not. Co-extensive with creation, it fills all space and, interpenetrating the physical, makes this earth or any other planet, any district, house, room, or place whatsoever as much a part of the Spiritual World as any other region where there is life and intelligence. But this is not all. The Bible shows that the...

Book Description
The founding of the Anthroposophical Society in 1913 marked a major change in Rudolf Steiner's work. Although Steiner had always been an independent spiritual researcher, the break with the theosophists removed all constraints, allowing for a full flowering of anthroposophy. These lectures are filled with a freshness and vitality that reflect this new beginning, providing intriguing glimpses of great themes that Steiner was to develop in the years ahead.

Book Description
At once controversial and intriguing, Spiritualism has spread from the United States to become a global movement. Bringing together perspectives from within the movement and without, this unique collection treats readers to insights about Spiritualism's history, belief, and practice. Based on the belief that the dead can communicate with the living through mediums, Spiritualism touches concepts as timelessly fascinating as human mortality and the continuing existence of the soul beyond bodily death. This comprehensive work will help readers parse the mysteries of this uniquely American religion through three thematically organized volumes: Spiritualism in the U.S. and Globally, Evidence and Beliefs, and Cultural and Social Issues. Drawing on fields as diverse as psychology, sociology, religious studies, anthropology, history, ethnic and gender studies, literature, and art, this broad-based collection frames Spiritualism through the views of a team of international scholars. Among the many things that separate Spiritualism from mainstream religions is the involvement of women in central leadership roles. Such cultural and political elements of the movement are one aspect of this study. Of equal interest to believers and skeptics alike will be the work of scholars who have devoted themselves to examining the claim that communication through mediums proves the existence of life after death.
