Book Description
Challenges and pitfalls of co-creative methods applied to migration studies Co-creative methods are increasingly used to understand and facilitate integration processes of migrants in immigrant societies. This volume aims to contribute to the debates on the ways in which co-creative methods may advance migrant integration. More specifically, the contributions investigate how co-creative research strategies can provide insights into how integration processes into various domains of immigrant society (e.g. language learning, housing, employment) are shaped, and how they can contribute to policy making and new policy practices. Because co-creative methods are relatively new approaches to research and policy making, the authors evaluate and demonstrate the pitfalls and benefits of using them. Starting with a theoretical and methodological overview of co-creative methods, empirical chapters document and critically assess ongoing research experiences and studies to incorporate co-creative methods in academic research across Europe. Co-creation in Migration Studies analyses the use of co-creative methods in migrant research and policy making, reflects upon the conditions required to successfully implement these methods, and offers new insights and recommendations for future research and policy making practices.

Book Description
Through a combination of theory, practice, and a range of interdisciplinary case studies, this book expands how we define and think about the critical role and relationship between design and emergencies. This role extends far beyond aesthetics: the book highlights the urgency of ensuring that a wide range of stakeholders and a diverse representation of the public comes together to work towards preventing disasters. Design in the context of disasters, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding and (wild) fires, provides new ways of looking at challenges. It contributes methods to actively engage communities in managing and minimizing disaster risk. Contributors present the latest research on how (collaborative) design and design thinking contribute to the development of processes and solutions to increase disaster literacy and decrease disaster risk for individuals and entire communities. Chapters highlight applied research and implementation of design and design thinking before, during, and after emergencies, resulting in a set of design guidelines derived from best practice. The book will be of interest to scholars and practitioners in emergency management, product and service design, strategic design, design research, co-design, social design, design for change, and human-centered design.

Book Description
The ICAEM2014 aims to bring together researchers, educators and students from around the world in both industry and academia for sharing the state-of-art research results and applications, for exploring new areas of research and development, and for discussing emerging issues on education and management fields. We received a total of 312 submissions from various parts of the world. The Technical Program Committee worked very hard to have all papers reviewed before the review deadline. The final technical program consists of 92 papers. There are one keynote speech and 2 invited sessions. The proceedings were published by DEStech Publications, Inc. and will submitted to Ei Compendex databases for indexing. We would like to mention that, due to the limitation of the conference venue capacity, we are not able to include many fine papers in the technical program. Our apology goes to those authors.
